API Fair Use Policy

Guidelines and limits for using the Salesbuildr public API fairly and responsibly.

Updated this week

πŸ“˜ Glossary of Terms

  • Fair use: Fair use is a legal doctrine that allows for the limited use of copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. Fair use is determined on a case-by-case basis, and there are four factors that courts consider when determining whether a use is fair:

    • The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is commercial or is for non-profit educational purposes;

    • The nature of the copyrighted work;

    • The amount and substantiality of the portion used concerning the copyrighted work as a whole; and

    • The effect of the use on the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

  • Rate limit: A rate limit restricts the number of requests that can be made to a system in a given period. Rate limits prevent system abuse and ensure that all users have fair access to resources.

  • Software: Software is a set of instructions that tells a computer what to do. Software can perform various tasks, such as creating documents, playing games, and browsing the web.

  • Hosted platform: The hosted platform is a cloud-based platform that provides users access to Salesbuildr Web Applications. This is hosted primarily in Microsoft Azure with all services and data for any given tenant located in their designated region.

πŸ“œ Policy Scope

This Fair Use Policy (β€œPolicy”) applies to your usage of the Salesbuildr Web Application and the Hosted Platform. It is intended to protect platform stability and ensure all users receive equitable access to system resources.

🚦 API Rate Limits

Each Salesbuildr tenant (company account) is limited to:

  • 500 API requests per 10-minute rolling window

This rate limit applies to external usage only.
Note: API calls made by native integrations or directly by the Salesbuildr application do not count toward this limit.

If the limit is exceeded, a 429 - Too Many Requests error will be returned.

🧠 Fair Use Expectations

Salesbuildr is designed for normal and responsible usage. Fair use assumes you do not intentionally or unintentionally overload our systems, affect other users, or misuse the platform for unintended purposes.

❌ Examples of Prohibited Use

The following are examples of prohibited use of the Software:

  • Making a high volume of API requests in a short period of time

  • Continuous polling or triggering multiple requests per second

  • Scraping or bulk-extracting data from the platform

  • Distributing malware or harmful content through API endpoints

  • Using the Software to engage in any other activity that is disruptive or harmful to our infrastructure or other users

  • Intentionally circumventing the rate limit to exceed fair use

⚠️ What Happens If Limits Are Exceeded

If API use violates this policy, the following actions may be taken, including in no particular order:

  • Suspending or terminating your account

  • Limiting your access to our API

  • Charging you for additional usage
