How to publish, unpublish, and deactivate products

Your product catalog on SauceyDirect gives you full control over which products are visible to your customers. You can publish, unpublish, or deactivate products depending on how you want them to appear (or not appear) on your menu.

This article explains the difference between these three options and how to manage them.


๐Ÿ”น Published Products

When a product is published, it is active and visible on your customer-facing website or app.

  • Customers can view and purchase these items.

  • Published products appear in your catalog as โ€œPublished.โ€

โœ… When to use: Youโ€™re currently selling this product and want customers to see and order it.


๐Ÿ”ธ Unpublished Products

When a product is unpublished, it is hidden from your customer-facing menu but remains searchable in your catalog.

  • You can still find and manage unpublished products in your dashboard.

  • Customers will not see unpublished items on your site.

  • You can re-publish them at any time when youโ€™re ready to sell again.

โœ… When to use: You plan to sell this product again in the future, but itโ€™s temporarily unavailable (e.g., out of stock, seasonal, or price testing).


โ›” Deactivated Products

When a product is deactivated, it is completely removed from your active catalog.

  • It will no longer appear in your product list or customer-facing menu.

  • You can reactivate it later if needed.

  • Deactivated products are ideal for items you no longer carry or donโ€™t plan to sell again soon.

โœ… When to use: You want to permanently remove a product from your catalog or clean up an imported menu.


โš™๏ธ How to Unpublish or Deactivate Products

Option 1: Bulk Edit

  1. Go to your Merchant Dashboard โ†’ Catalog > Products.

  2. Use the checkboxes to select multiple products.

  3. Click Bulk Edit at the top of the page.

  4. Choose either:

    • Unpublish โ†’ Hides products from your customer-facing site but keeps them searchable in your catalog.

    • Deactivate โ†’ Removes them from your catalog entirely.

  5. Confirm your changes.


Option 2: Individual Product

  1. Go to your Merchant Dashboard โ†’ Catalog > Products.

  2. Find the product you want to update and click the โœ๏ธ (pencil icon) to edit.

  3. Toggle Published/Unpublished as needed.

    • This will make the product visible or hidden on your customer-facing site.

    • Note: You cannot deactivate products individually; deactivation is available only through Bulk Edit.

  4. Click Save.

If you imported another storeโ€™s catalog and need to clean it up, Deactivate items youโ€™ll never sell and Unpublish ones you might add later. This keeps your menu tidy while saving time down the road.
