Registering to vote in Texas can be a useful supporting step in your domicile plan, but it does not by itself establish domicile. It should be combined with other steps such as updating your driver’s license, filing a declaration of domicile, and moving your financial and medical records. Note: it's easier to register to vote after you get your Texas driver's license or state ID. If you already have your state ID, you can use the video guide above. If you do not yet have it, you will need to print and mail in a form.
Please also be aware that Texas sources prospective jurors from both voter registration records and Texas DPS records (driver's licenses and state IDs). This means you may be called for jury duty by virtue of obtaining a Texas driver's license, even if you do not register to vote.
Voter registration in Texas is completed alongside your driver's license application (if eligible). If you already have a Texas ID, you can register online at https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/. There is no fully-online registration for new registrants who do not yet have a Texas ID — in that case you will need to print and mail in a form.
