Close a portfolio

What happens when you close a portfolio, and how to do it.

Written by Sharesies Help

Before you close a portfolio

A portfolio needs to be empty before you can close it. To empty it, you can:

  • Move its investments into another one of your portfolios—see Move investments between your portfolios.

  • Sell its investments, with the proceeds going to your Wallet—see Buying and selling across your portfolios.

  • Pause, stop or redirect any auto-invests pointing at that portfolio.

You must always have at least one portfolio, and you can’t close your original portfolio. This will be the 'Investments' portfolio that was in your Sharesies account to begin with.

How to close a portfolio

  1. Log in to Sharesies.

  2. Go to the portfolio you’d like to close and tap Manage.

  3. Tap Close this portfolio.

  4. Follow the prompts to confirm.

Your records after closing

Closing a portfolio doesn’t remove your investing history. Your past transactions for that portfolio can still be downloaded in your reports.

Additionally, contract notes for cash transactions (buy, sell, cash dividends) are accessible in your Wallet. Non-cash transaction records for closed portfolios are available on request.
