Sign up while living overseas
To sign up to Sharesies while you’re living overseas, you’ll need to:
provide a current NZ passport or NZ driver licence, or certified copies of ID we can accept on Sharesies
top up your Wallet from, and withdraw into, an NZ bank account
provide and verify a valid overseas address using a government-issued document or bank statement
provide your foreign tax details for the country you’re in.
There may be some tax implications for you, depending on your tax residency. We recommend talking to a tax adviser if you have specific questions about this.
Moving overseas
If you have a Sharesies account and you’re moving overseas, you can keep using Sharesies if you can still:
top up your Wallet from, and withdraw into, an NZ bank account
provide and verify your overseas residential address with a valid government-issued document or bank statement
provide your foreign tax details for the country you move to.
We can transfer shares from an NZ resident Sharesies account to an Australian resident Sharesies account. Contact our team at help@sharesies.co.nz for more information.
IRD numbers
You don’t need an IRD number to sign up. But you’ll need to provide one before you can buy most investments, or use features like auto-invest. If you’ve already given us your IRD number, you won’t need to provide it again.
