Sell investments

How to sell companies, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and managed funds on Sharesies—including from a specific portfolio.

Written by Sharesies Help

To sell investments on Sharesies:

  1. Find the investment you want to sell—either in the portfolio that holds it, or by searching in Explore.

  2. Select Sell.

  3. If you have more than one portfolio and started from Explore, choose which portfolio you’re selling from.

  4. For companies and ETFs, choose between a market order or limit order (or stop loss order, for US investments).

  5. Enter the details of your sell order (for example, the number of shares/units to sell), or select Sell all.

  6. Select Review. Check your order details are correct, and read the info provided (including fees and order processing times for managed funds).

  7. Select Sell to place your order.

Your sell order might not fill immediately, or may only partially fill.

If you have more than one portfolio

Selling works the same way—you just choose which portfolio you’re selling from. Where you start your order decides whether we ask:

  • From within a portfolio: we’ll assume you’re selling from that portfolio.

  • From Explore or search: we’ll ask Which portfolio are you selling from? If you hold the investment in more than one portfolio, you’ll see how many shares you hold in each.

On the order and review screens, the portfolio shows as a label next to the order type. Select it to switch to a different portfolio before you place your order.
