Adding money

To transfer money to your Save account, you need to have money in your Wallet.

You can only transfer New Zealand dollars (NZD) to Save. Australian dollars (AUD) and US dollars (USD) in your Wallet need to be exchanged to NZD before being transferred to Save.

If you want to transfer money you’ve received from a Gift, referral, or promo to Save, you need to first invest the money, then sell the investment.

Adding money from a top-up

When you top up your Wallet using card or mobile pay, the money will appear in your Wallet straight away, but you won’t be able to transfer it to your Save account until the money has settled. The time it takes for money to settle varies:

  • credit, debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay top-ups usually take a few hours to settle but can take up to two business days

  • instant bank transfers usually settle within an hour but can take longer after 11 PM.

Adding money after selling shares

If you’ve sold shares recently and want to transfer the money from the sale to Save, you need to wait at least two business days for the money to settle. This is so there’s time for legal ownership of the shares to transfer from one shareholder to another.

To transfer to Save

  • log in to Sharesies

  • go to your Wallet > Transfer to Save; or go to your Save account > Transfer money

  • enter the amount you’d like to transfer > Review > Confirm.

While you'll see the money in your Save account straight away, you won't start earning interest until the funds have cleared. This can take up to one business day.

To make a deposit into your Save account, you need to top-up your Sharesies Wallet first.

Setting up a recurring transfer

You can set up recurring transfers from your Wallet to your Save account(s).

  • log in to Sharesies

  • go to your Wallet > Transfer to Save; or go to your Save account > Transfer money

  • enter the amount you’d like to transfer

  • select Make recurring

  • set the frequency and start date for your transfer

select Review then Confirm.

Once your recurring transfer is active

You can edit or delete your recurring transfer at any time.

  • go to the Save account you want to edit the transfer for

  • under Transactions, select Upcoming then Edit

  • edit the amount, frequency or start date you want to change then select Save changes > Confirm

  • to delete, select Delete > Confirm.

You’ll need to make sure you have enough money in your Sharesies Wallet by 1PM (NZDT) on the weekday your recurring transfer is due to be taken out. We recommend setting up an automatic payment from your bank account to land in your Wallet the day before.

Transferring and withdrawing money

You can transfer money from your Save account to your Sharesies Wallet, or to another one of your Save accounts, at any time:

  • log in to Sharesies

  • select Save > Transfer money

  • enter the amount you’d like to transfer and review

  • select Confirm transfer.

You’ll continue to earn interest on the remaining balance in your Save account.

Transfers from your Save account to your Wallet can be used immediately to place an order to buy investments.

If you want to withdraw money from your Save account, and out of Sharesies, you’ll need to transfer it to your Sharesies Wallet first. Withdrawing money from a Sharesies Wallet may take up to 1 business day (or longer if we need more info from you) to land in your bank account.
