Learn how to transfer shares from your Sharesies account to another Sharesies account.

On request, we can transfer shares from one Sharesies account to another Sharesies account, if you meet a set of compliance requirements.

You’ll need to ensure there’s enough money in your Wallet to cover the fee, which will be deducted from your Wallet once the transfer is complete.

What can be transferred?

Only shares can be transferred.

We can’t transfer:

  • managed fund units between Sharesies accounts

  • US over-the-counter (OTC) investments

  • cash from any PIE Save accounts or Save accounts

  • cash in your Wallet

  • cash in a Spend account

  • Sharesies Crypto investments

  • your car insurance with Cove

  • your Sharesies KiwiSaver Scheme portfolio.

NZ to Australian account transfers

For transfers from an NZ Sharesies account to an Australian Sharesies account, both accounts must belong to the same beneficial owner.

The transfer may also reset the investment’s cost basis from the perspective of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)—if you need guidance, we recommend you speak with a qualified financial advisor.

Request an account-to-account transfer

Email help@sharesies.co.nz with the following information:

  1. the name of each investment you want to transfer

  2. the number of shares you’d like to transfer for each investment

  3. the full name and registered email address of the person you want to transfer the shares to—they must have a Sharesies account and agree to receive the shares from you (we’ll contact them to check). By requesting the share transfer, you confirm the recipient has agreed to receive the shares, and to you providing us with their details for this purpose

  4. if transferring to someone else: confirmation that you understand and agree that by completing the transfer, you will from the date of the transfer no longer be the beneficial owner of, or have any rights in, the shares you have transferred (including any current or future value they may have).

After we receive your request, we’ll check that the transfer recipient has a Sharesies account, and email them to confirm their consent to receive the shares in the transfer.

Next, we’ll send an SMS to your registered phone number to confirm the share transfer request.

Once we receive confirmation from both parties and have received all the required information, we’ll process the transfer and deduct the fee from your Wallet.
