A freebie discount rewards customers with a free product when their cart reaches a minimum spend amount. Rather than cutting prices, you surprise shoppers with a bonus item - like a pair of socks, a handkerchief, or a T-shirt - that feels like a genuine gift. This is one of the most effective ways to increase average order value while delighting your customers.
When to Use a Freebie Discount
Use a freebie discount when you want to nudge customers to spend a little more per order. It works especially well during festive campaigns, product launches, or when you want to introduce a new item without discounting your main products. The freebie should feel valuable to the customer but remain cost-effective for you.
How to Set Up Your Freebie Discount
Step 1: Click Create Discount button in your Shopflo dashboard. & Step 2: When the discount type selector appears, choose Freebie.
Step 3: Enter a name for your discount, such as "Freebie Discount."
Step 4: Select Manual entry as your mode, enable Use as Code, and specify the product that will be given for free - for example, a T-shirt. This defines what the customer receives when the discount triggers.
Step 5: Set the cart value threshold at which the freebie activates. For example, enter ₹3,500 so any cart worth ₹3,500 or more qualifies for the free item.
Understanding the "Apply Upto" Setting
The Apply Upto setting controls how many times the freebie can be awarded within a single order. For example, if your cart threshold is ₹3,500 and a customer spends ₹7,000, Shopflo could qualify them for 2 freebies - one for each multiple of the threshold. Setting Apply Upto to 1 ensures the customer only receives one freebie regardless of how much they spend above the threshold. Leave it at No Limit if you want the freebie to scale with cart size.
Step 6: Set the Apply Upto value. Choose No Limit to let the freebie scale with cart value, or enter a specific number to cap how many freebies one order can earn.
Setting Eligibility and Usage Limits
Step 7: Choose who can access this freebie. Select All Customers or target a specific customer segment.
Step 8: Decide whether this discount can be combined with other active promotions. Set this to None if you want the freebie to be the only discount applied at checkout.
Step 9: Set overall usage limits. For example, cap the total redemptions at 250 and allow each customer to use the discount up to 2 times. This prevents overspending on the promotion.
Channels, Visibility, and Schedule
Step 10: Choose the sales channels where this discount should apply. Select All Channels to make it available everywhere.
Step 11: Adjust visibility settings - for instance, whether this offer appears on your discount page or is only accessible to customers who know the code.
Step 12: Set the campaign start and end dates. For example, run the freebie promotion for one week to create urgency.
Review, Save, and Publish
Step 13: Review the complete discount summary. Check all settings - the freebie product, cart threshold, eligibility, limits, and schedule - before finalizing.
Step 14: Click Save to create the discount. Once saved, customers will see this offer in their cart, at checkout, or on the discount page.
Step 15: Click Publish to activate the discount. If a coupon name conflict appears, update the name and publish again.
