The Upsell section shows shoppers recommended products (Best Sellers, You May Like) directly inside the cart — without requiring them to go back to browse. A well-styled upsell card that matches your brand encourages add-ons and lifts AOV without friction.
Cart Upsell is a Flo add-on. You'll need to install it from the App Store before it appears in your cart. Once installed, you configure which products are recommended — then customise how the section looks from Core Setup.
A shopper who has already added items is far more receptive to adding one more than one still browsing a product page. Brands with an active upsell section see 8–15% AOV lift on average, with accepting shoppers adding 15–20% more to their order. Because it happens before checkout (not after), there's no extra step — the added item goes straight into the cart the shopper is already reviewing.
Step 1: Install Cart Upsell
Go to the Cart Upsell page in the Flo App Store and install it on your store.
Step 2: Enable and Configure Upsell
Once installed, go to Flo Checkout → Upsell to enable the feature and configure which products appear — including AI-powered recommendations or manual selection. Settings made here control what shows up in the cart upsell section.
Step 3: Customise the Upsell Appearance
Go to Flo Cart → Core Setup and click on Upsell in the right panel to expand its settings. You can also toggle the visibility icon to show or hide the upsell section entirely.
— Background: The background colour of each upsell product card.
— Border: The colour of the card border.
— Button: The background colour of the "+ ADD" button on each upsell card.
— Text: The colour of product name and price text on the card.
— Title: The colour of the section heading and tab labels (e.g., "Best Sellers", "You May Like").
— Offer badge: The background colour of the discount badge shown on upsell product images (e.g., "20% OFF"). Make this pop — shoppers add upsell items most often when the discount is clearly visible.
— Card radius and Card border: Control the rounded corners and border thickness of each upsell card. Keeping these consistent with your Order Summary card radius creates a cohesive look across the cart.
Click Save after making your changes.
Industry Best Practices
— Acceptance rates of 3–6% are typical — consistent branding and a high-contrast offer badge push acceptance toward the upper end. Mismatched card styles cause shoppers to unconsciously treat the upsell as an ad and scroll past.
— Keep upsell items under 30% of the cart value. Items priced above that threshold feel like a major new decision, not an easy add-on. Cheaper complementary products — accessories, samples, travel-size versions — convert best.
— Best Sellers tab outperforms You May Like for first-time buyers — social proof reduces hesitation. Save personalised recommendations for returning customers where you have purchase history to work with.
— The offer badge is the most-clicked element on upsell cards. Use a distinct accent colour — not your primary button colour — so it reads as a deal indicator rather than an action button.
— Match card radius to the rest of your cart. A card with sharp corners in a rounded-corner cart (or vice versa) breaks visual consistency and subtly signals "this isn't from this site."
