A shopper browses three products, gets distracted, and lands on their cart with nothing in it — or with one item and no memory of what else they liked. Without a nudge, that browsing history is lost the moment they leave the product page.
The Recently Viewed Products strip solves this by surfacing the last few products a shopper looked at, right on the cart page — in the same visual style as your existing upsell strip, so it feels native rather than bolted on.
What It Does
As a shopper views product pages during their session, Shopflo keeps track of the last 5 products they looked at. The moment they've viewed at least one product, the Recently Viewed strip becomes available on the cart page — titled "Recently Viewed" by default.
— On an empty cart, it renders as the primary strip — often the only thing standing between an empty cart and a bounce.
— On an active cart (one with items already in it), it renders as a separate tab inside your existing upsell strip, alongside things like Best Sellers or You May Like.
If a shopper hasn't viewed any products yet, the strip simply doesn't render — there's nothing to show, so nothing takes up space.
How to Turn It On or Off
This is not a self-serve toggle — there is nothing to configure on the Shopflo dashboard for this feature.
— Empty cart: always on. As long as a shopper has viewed at least one product, the strip shows. There's no setting to turn this off.
— Active cart: enabled or disabled on request. If you want the Recently Viewed tab turned on or off for active carts on your store, reach out to your Shopflo point of contact or support@shopflo.com and we'll make the change on your account.
Why This Matters
Most shoppers who view a product don't buy on that visit — browse abandonment runs far higher than cart abandonment across e-commerce. The products a shopper looked at and didn't add are some of the strongest purchase-intent signals you have, and today they vanish the second the shopper navigates away.
Putting those products back in front of the shopper at the cart — the last stop before checkout — gives them a low-friction way to pick up where they left off, instead of relying on them to remember and go back to the product page themselves.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
It follows your existing upsell design. The Recently Viewed strip inherits the same card, button, and badge styling you've already set up for Upsell — so there's nothing extra to design.
It's capped at 5 products. Only the most recent 5 product views are tracked and shown — older views roll off.
It's session-based. The list reflects what a shopper viewed in their current session/user context, not their entire lifetime browsing history.
