What is CHESS?
Clearing House Electronic Subregister System (CHESS) is the computer system that the ASX uses to record shareholdings and manage the settlement of share transactions.
CHESS sponsorship is automatically applied to all SIX share trading accounts. With a CHESS sponsorship, your account will have a unique HIN (Holding Identification Number).
Can I invest in SIX if I don't have a CHESS sponsored account?
Yes. When you sign up to SIX, CHESS sponsorship and your HIN is automatically created as part of your onboarding.
If you don't wish to have a CHESS sponsored account and you currently invest directly with share issuers and use an SRN (SecurityHolder Reference Number), you will not be able to invest through SIX at this stage. If you wish to support our campaigns and you already hold shares outside of SIX through your SRN, you can still support by signing our agency agreement.
