Annotation Symbology gives users control over how annotations are drawn in the 3D scene. Line thickness, icon placement, icon size, and polygon fill can be adjusted separately for Polygon, Polyline, and Point annotations, making it easier to keep the scene readable whether a project has a handful of annotations or hundreds.
What's New?
Polygon Symbology: Set line thickness, icon placement, fill visibility, fill opacity, and fill behavior on hover
Polyline Symbology: Set line thickness and choose where icons appear along the line
Point Symbology: Resize point icons to suit the scale of the scene
Accessing Annotation Symbology
Annotation Symbology settings are found in the viewer settings menu.
Click the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right toolbar of the 3D scene.
Expand Annotation Symbology.
Select the annotation type to configure: Polygon, Polyline, or Point.
Note: Changes apply immediately in the 3D scene, so users can preview the result as they adjust each setting.
Polygon Symbology
The Polygon tab controls the outline, icon, and fill of polygon annotations. The following settings are available:
Line thickness (px): Sets the width of the polygon outline in pixels. Higher values produce a bolder outline, while lower values keep the outline subtle.
Icon placement: Determines where the annotation icon appears on the polygon.
Center: Displays a single icon at the center of the polygon.
Every vertex: Displays an icon at each vertex of the polygon.
Show fill: Turns the colored fill inside the polygon on or off. When off, only the polygon outline is displayed.
Fill opacity (%): Sets how transparent the polygon fill appears, from 0 (fully transparent) to 100 (fully opaque). This setting is only available when Show fill is on.
Hide fill on hover: When on, the fill is temporarily hidden while the cursor is over the polygon. This allows users to see the underlying model without turning the fill off. This setting is only available when Show fill is on.
Note: When Show fill is turned off, the Fill opacity and Hide fill on hover settings are hidden, since they only apply to filled polygons.
Polyline Symbology
The Polyline tab controls the line width and the position of icons along polyline annotations. The following settings are available:
Line thickness (px): Sets the width of the polyline in pixels. Thicker lines are easier to see from a distance, while thinner lines reduce visual clutter.
Icon placement: Determines where annotation icons appear along the line.
Start: Displays an icon at the first point of the line.
End: Displays an icon at the last point of the line.
Start & end: Displays icons at both the first and last points.
Every vertex: Displays an icon at each vertex along the line.
Point Symbology
The Point tab controls the size of point annotation icons. The following setting is available:
Icon size (1-24 px): Sets the display size of point annotations in pixels, from 1 to 24. Smaller sizes help reduce clutter in dense scenes, while larger sizes make individual points easier to spot from a distance.
Note: The Icon size setting does not apply to annotation icons for Polylines and Polygons.
Why It Matters
Annotation Symbology lets users tailor how annotations appear to match the scale and density of each project. Thinner lines and smaller icons keep busy scenes clean, while bolder lines, larger icons, and stronger fills make key findings stand out during reviews and presentations.
Sample Use Cases
Dense Inspection Projects: Reduce icon size and line thickness so that large numbers of defect annotations do not obscure the model.
Area Mapping: Lower fill opacity or enable Hide fill on hover so polygon zones remain visible without hiding surface detail underneath.
Linear Assets: Use Start & end icon placement on polylines to clearly mark the extent of a pipeline, cable run, or rail section.
Stakeholder Presentations: Increase line thickness and icon size so annotations remain visible when viewing the model from further away.
