Family Appointment Overbooking

Let patients book several family members into the same time slot in the SKED app, even when the slot is at capacity. Learn how it works, how to turn it on, set a cap, and let providers opt out.

Family overbooking lets patients book several family members into the same time slot in the SKED app, even when the slot is already at capacity. You choose whether to allow it and how many extra appointments a slot can hold. Currently Platinum and Genesis EHR's don't allow overbooking, so this feature will only work with ChiroHD, ChiroTouch, and Stand Alone SKED users.

How it works

The app has a set limit on the number of appointment slots available to individual patients. If a family is trying to book, the limit of available slots increases. Overbooking is only offered for family members linked through groups in SKED. Other patients booking a full slot still see the standard “slot full” message.

Enable family overbooking

Family overbooking is off by default, so your current scheduling behavior doesn’t change until you turn it on.

  1. Go to the Provider Schedule in the main Settings menu.

  2. Set the overbook cap for each Provider’s schedule, which is the maximum number of extra appointments a slot can hold beyond its normal capacity.

  3. Save.

Notes on the cap:

  • The cap applies to each time slot, not to each family.

  • The cap can be set to apply to the whole schedule or modified for each individual time slot.

  • A cap of 0 is the same as turning the feature off.

  • Once a slot reaches its cap, patients see a message that it can’t accept more appointments.

Good to know

  • When viewing an appointment in SKED, if it's an overbooked appointment, there will be a badge shown in the appointment details to indicate that this was an allowed overbooking.
Cancellations: Canceling one appointment in an overbooked slot doesn’t affect the others. The slot returns to its normal capacity as appointments are removed.

  • If a spot opens up: If someone cancels while a patient is confirming, the appointment books normally without the overbook flag.

  • Mobile app only: Overbooking is available only in the SKED mobile app. It isn’t available in the web or desktop booking portal.
