CME futures markets operate on modified schedules on US federal holidays. This article covers every affected date in 2026.
CME Globex equity futures operate on modified schedules on US federal holidays. Most holidays result in an early halt — not a full day closure — and electronic trading typically resumes the same evening. All times below are Eastern Time (ET).
⚠️ Always verify before the date: CME finalizes exact holiday hours approximately two weeks before each holiday and occasionally adjusts times by 15–30 minutes. Specific products may vary. Confirm the final schedule at cmegroup.com/trading-hours in the days before each holiday.

Equity index futures (ES, MES, NQ, MNQ, YM, MYM, RTY, M2K): open for an abbreviated morning session around the NFP release. Settlements are derived from the morning session.
All other CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and COMEX products: no trading on April 3. Settlements are copied from April 2.
FX and cryptocurrency futures: unique closes and settlements per the CME advisory.
Reopens: Sunday, April 5 at 6:00 PM ET for Monday's trade date.
For the exact session details on April 3, verify the CME advisory at cmegroup.com/trading-hours in the days prior.

Frequently asked questions about 2026 holiday trading hours
Q: Are CME futures completely closed on holidays?
A: Rarely. Most US federal holidays result in an early halt for equity and interest rate futures, not a full closure, and electronic trading typically resumes the same evening. Christmas and New Year's Day are the two full closures in 2026.
Q: Do daily maintenance breaks still apply on holiday early-close days?
A: No. The standard 5:00–6:00 PM ET maintenance break does not apply on early-close days — the session simply ends at the early halt time and resumes the same evening.
Q: What happens to my open orders on a holiday?
A: Day orders are cancelled at the close of the modified session. GTC (Good Till Cancelled) orders may carry over, so verify your order settings before a holiday. See Order Types Reference for time-in-force details.
Most CME futures holidays are early halts, not full closures. Equity index futures typically stop at 1:00 PM ET on Monday holidays and resume at 6:00 PM ET. Christmas and New Year's Day are full day closures. Good Friday 2026 (April 3) is a special case due to NFP. Always verify final times at cmegroup.com/trading-hours about two weeks before each holiday.
