To support Medicaid billing, we’ve added an area in SLP Toolkit where users can enter ICD-10 codes directly into each student’s profile. This makes it easier to store and reference diagnosis codes for required reporting.
School-based SLPs often need to reference ICD-10 codes when documenting services or completing billing paperwork. While the exact code used should always reflect the individual student’s documented diagnosis from an appropriate professional, the list below provides an overview of commonly used ICD-10 codes for school-age populations.

Important Notes
SLPs should not assign a diagnosis outside their scope of practice. If a code requires a medical diagnosis (e.g., Autism, ADHD, hearing loss), ensure documentation from the qualified provider is on file at your school.
For Medicaid or insurance billing, check with your state and district guidelines to confirm accepted codes.
When in doubt, use the most specific code available to match the student’s documented condition.
Entering ICD-10 Codes in SLP Toolkit
To add or update an ICD-10 code for a student, you’ll need to edit the student’s profile information. You can access the student profile in two ways:
From the Caseload tab:
Navigate to the Caseload tab.
Locate the student on your caseload list.
On the right-hand side of the student’s line, select the blue Actions drop-down.
Click Edit Details.
The student’s profile will appear.
Enter the ICD-10 code in the DX Medicaid Code box.
Select Update to save your changes.
From the Students tab:
Navigate to the Students tab.
In the purple drop-down in the upper left-hand corner, select the student.
Next to the student’s name, click the blue Actions drop-down.
Select Edit Student Data.
The student’s profile will appear.
Enter the ICD-10 code in the DX Medicaid Code box.
Select Update to save your changes.
Important Note: The DX Medicaid Code field in SLP Toolkit is for documentation purposes only and does not populate into any of our standard reports. If your organization is using SLP Toolkit to document services for Medicaid billing and needs the ICD-10 code included in your reporting, we can explore custom reporting options with you. Please reach out to us directly at help@slptoolkit.com, and we’d be happy to discuss what’s possible!
