The amount a Helium Hotspot will mine depends on:
The number of other Helium hotspots in your area
How well your hotspot is positioned to receive and transmit
How many IoT devices in your area transmit data
Item 1: Other hotspots
If there are other hotspots in your area, your hotspot will be able to participate in the Helium Network Proof-of-Coverage (PoC) - where hotspots witness each others’ beacons and get rewarded.
Ideally, there are enough nearby hotspots in your area to participate in PoC, but not so many so that rewards are scaled down.
It’s a goldilocks situation that’s outside of your control.
See our article on viewing your hotspot on a Hotspot Explorer so that you can get an idea of how many other hotspots are in your area.
Item 2: Hotspot Positioning
You have more control in determining how well your hotspot is positioned to receive and transmit. The better your hotspot’s signal, the better chance it has of:
Earning more from Proof-of-Coverage
Other hotspots receiving it’s beacons
Witnessing beacons from other hotspots
Earning from relaying data from devices
See our article on improving a hotspot's placement for more info.
Item 3: Data Transmission
If there are IoT devices in your area transmitting data using the Helium IoT Network through your hotspot, you will be rewarded based on the amount of data transmissions.
This is also outside of your control. But you're free to deploy devices to the Helium Network!
