Overview

Focus mode is designed for detailed, real-time monitoring of a single student. This mode provides greater visibility into one session while maintaining access to key monitoring controls.

In this article, you will learn:

  • What you can see in Focus Mode

  • How to talk directly to a student

  • How to create an incident report

What You Can See in Focus Mode

Focus Mode gives you insight to: the video stream, session information, identification for the student, flags being caught by the AI assistant, and chat history. Below you will find more information on several of these features.

Flags

During a testing session the AI assistant will begin logging flags as soon as Check In is complete. While in Focus Mode, you can review these flags and respond as appropriate.

  • Bulk Edit - selecting bulk edit allows you to select more than one flag at a time before confirming or deleting.

  • Confirm - confirming a flag ensures the instructor that it is a valid and has been reviewed by you, the proctor.

  • Proctor Note - use this to open a text box so you can add context to the flag if needed.

  • Delete - use this button to delete flags that are not valid. For example: speech detected, but transcript shows student was just reading the question out loud.

Progress Bar

The progress bar allows you to navigate back to earlier points in the feed, toggle filters on or off, and quickly return to the live view.

Live Session Timing

The timer in Focus mode shows the real-time duration of the student’s recording, indicating exactly how long the student has been in the active session.

This differs from Overview mode, which displays progress relative to the alotted exam length.

Timeline Filters

The settings icon to the right of the progress bar will allow you to adjust several components.

Playback speed can be adjusted for anytime you need to go back to a previous part in the recording. There is even a Smart Speed option that will automatically slow the playback back to normal speed when a flag

Jump Back to Live

If you have moved to a previous part of the session recording on the progress bar (ex: to check a flag) you can jump back to the live feed by hovering your cursor over the main display and clicking the arrow.

How to Talk Directly to a Student

There are two ways to communicate directly with a test taker, through the call tool or the chat.

Chat

A visually separated chat window for messaging with the student.

When a student sends a message through chat, you will hear an alert sound as well as see a notification next to the students name.

If you send a message through the chat to a student, they will be notified within their testing window.

Call Tool

The call tool allows you to talk directly to the student, and the icon stays on your toolbar regardless of which tab you're viewing.

Green icon = call is active, and volume bars will move to show sound transmitting

White icon = call is inactive

Incident Reports

If you notice any unusual or concerning behavior during a testing session, you can create an incident report by following the steps below.

  1. While in focus mode, click on the gear icon (Action Menu) and select Incident Report.

  2. In the window that appears, click Start Writing.

  3. Fill in the Subject and Details as appropriate.

  4. Click Submit and confirm you want to submit the incident report.

  5. You will now see a confirmation page that the report was submitted.

Incident reports can be edited if needed by clicking on the action menu again and reopening the report.
