SmartStart Overview

What is SmartStart?

SmartStart uses the QR code on Z-Wave Plus devices to send a hub the needed information to automatically pair a device when the device is first powered on.

How do I use SmartStart?

After connecting the hub to a job, select “Securely Pair with SmartStart” on the Hub page. Scan the QR codes of the devices and follow the instructions on when to power on the devices. SmartStart paired devices will display for selection on the Device Install Task pages.

Why use SmartStart?

SmartStart pairs Z-Wave Plus devices quickly and securely as the hub knows which devices it is looking for when those devices are powered on. This works to prevent pairing failures and speeds up the pairing process for installs with a large amount of Z-Wave Plus devices.

Device:

QR codes are located on the device, oftentimes under batteries or panels and near the Z-Wave Plus logo.

Troubleshooting:

  • Is your device not pairing?

    • Remove the battery, wait 30 seconds and then put the battery back into the device. This may help the device connect to the hub.

  • Pair Device Manually

    • Delete the SmartStart device from this list and pair the device with manual inclusion.
