When electronically filing an amended return (Form 1040-X), the return may be rejected if the amounts in the Correct column do not match the corresponding amounts in the originally filed Form 1040.

There are multiple reject codes related to this issue, each corresponding to a specific line on Form 1040-X, including:

  • F1040X-005: Taxable income amounts do not match.

  • F1040X-008: Tax less credits amount does not match.

  • F1040X-010: Total tax amount does not match.

How to Fix These Reject Codes in TaxSlayer Pro

The solution is to repull information into the Correct column so it matches the original Form 1040. The steps vary depending on the tax year:

For TaxSlayer Pro 2020 and Later:

  1. Open the taxpayer's Form 1040 in TaxSlayer Pro.

  2. Navigate to Miscellaneous Forms.

  3. Select Amended Return.

  4. When prompted, select No to repull data into the Correct column. This ensures the amounts match the original Form 1040.

For TaxSlayer Pro 2019 and Earlier:

  1. Open the taxpayer's Form 1040 in TaxSlayer Pro.

  2. Navigate to Miscellaneous Forms.

  3. Select Amended Return.

  4. Go to Edit 1040X Menu > 20XX Amended Return.

  5. Choose Corrected Column, which will now reflect the original Form 1040 values.

By ensuring the Correct column matches the originally filed return, you can resolve these rejections and successfully submit the amended return.
