Clearing Rejection Notices in Taxslayer

You'll see a rejection notice on the tax return page until the IRS sends an acceptance acknowledgment.

Once the IRS gives the thumbs up, Taxslayer automatically clears the rejection notice.

However, there are some instances where this may not happen.

What if I mailed the return?

Mailing a rejected return won't trigger an acceptance acknowledgment, so the rejection notice will stick around. Here's a tip:

To manually remove the rejection notice:

  1. From the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select Personal Information

  2. In the Filing Information menu, go to E-File Information

  3. Answer the question "Manually override e-file rejection?" by selecting YES.

It is important to only use this feature if you have already mailed the return, and do not intend to e-file the return in the future.

Pro Tips for Mailed Returns

Since mailing a rejected return won't automatically update the status in Taxslayer, consider using these features to stay organized:

  • Return Notes: Jot down important details or dates related to the mailed return.

  • Return Status Tags: Create custom tags (e.g., "Mailed 03/12/2025") to easily track the status of your returns.
