Once the IRS gives the thumbs up, Taxslayer automatically clears the rejection notice.
However, there are some instances where this may not happen.
What if I mailed the return?
Mailing a rejected return won't trigger an acceptance acknowledgment, so the rejection notice will stick around. Here's a tip:
To manually remove the rejection notice:
From the Main Menu of the Tax Return (Form 1040) select Personal Information
In the Filing Information menu, go to E-File Information
Answer the question "Manually override e-file rejection?" by selecting YES.
It is important to only use this feature if you have already mailed the return, and do not intend to e-file the return in the future.
Pro Tips for Mailed Returns
Since mailing a rejected return won't automatically update the status in Taxslayer, consider using these features to stay organized:
Return Notes: Jot down important details or dates related to the mailed return.
Return Status Tags: Create custom tags (e.g., "Mailed 03/12/2025") to easily track the status of your returns.
