The Australian Government provides Parental Leave Pay and Dad and Partner Pay to eligible working parents. As an employer, you may need to provide these payments to employees on behalf of the government.
Types of parental leave payments
Parental Leave Pay (PLP): Primary carer payment for up to 18 weeks.
Dad and Partner Pay (DAPP): Payment for dads and partners for up to 2 weeks.
These are government-funded payments provided through the employer's payroll.
Eligibility
Employees must meet eligibility criteria including work test requirements, income test, residency requirements and primary carer status.
Services Australia determines eligibility, not the employer.
Employer responsibilities
If you're required to provide PLP or DAPP:
Receive notification: Services Australia will notify you.
Provide the payment: Pay the employee the specified amount.
Report the payment: Report through Single Touch Payroll.
Claim reimbursement: Recover the payment from the ATO.
