When you receive notification from Services Australia to provide parental leave payments.
Processing parental leave payments
In the payrun screen, select the employee.
Add the parental leave payment using the appropriate pay code.
Enter the amount as specified by Services Australia.
Process the pay as normal.
The payment will be:
Taxed appropriately
Reported through STP
Paid to the employee
Reporting through STP
Parental leave payments must be reported through Single Touch Payroll with specific reporting categories.

Claiming reimbursement
After paying the employee:
The payment amount will show on your activity statement.
Offset against other taxes owed, or
Claim as a refund if you have no other liabilities.
The process is automatic through the ATO's systems when correctly reported through STP.
