Step-by-Step Instructions for Leveraging Triggers and Custom Segments in Klaviyo

This article provides an in-depth look at how the Klaviyo integration works with SocialLadder. By understanding and utilizing this integration, you can leverage Klaviyo’s powerful email marketing capabilities and segmentation features to enhance your Ambassador Program.

Configure Email Triggers on Klaviyo

The SocialLadder platform allows you to configure various emails to be sent via Klaviyo instead of the SocialLadder domain. This integration ensures that emails are more customizable and provide better analytics.

Step 1 - Synchronize with Email CRM

  1. Go to Settings > Account Settings > Email Templates > Email Template List in the SL Portal.

  2. Choose the email template you want to trigger from Klaviyo.

  3. Click on the icon "Sync with Email CRM" next to it. This sends a trigger to Klaviyo.



Step 2 - Configure Email Flows in Klaviyo

  1. Go to Klaviyo > Flows.

  2. Click on Create Flow.

  3. Click on the Build your own button on the top right.
    ​

  4. Set the name of the flow in the pop-up and hit Create Flow.
    ​

  5. After the flow is created, select Your Metrics on the right-hand side to show a list of metrics categories.
    ​

  6. Click on API to see the list of events sent from SocialLadder and other platforms.
    ​


    ​

  7. Select the event you want to build the flow for and hit Save on the bottom right.
    ​

  8. You will see a confirm pop-up. Hit Confirm and Save.
    ​

  9. After saving, a new panel will appear on the left for the elements needed to be used. Drag and drop the Email component.
    ​

  10. Select the email and configure it as per your needs.
    ​

    1. Note: Uncheck the "skipped recently emailed profiles"checkbox.
      ​

  11. When editing the email, click on the Preview & Test button on the top right to see a preview mode of the email. The right panel will show recent event occurrences and the properties attached to the event.

  12. Clicking on the property will copy the snippet, which you can use in your email to replace text with values.
    ​

Step 3 - Turn on Emails in Klaviyo

  1. After setting up the email template and event, hit Review and turn it on on the top right to activate the flow.
    ​

  2. Select the Action status as Live and hit Turn On.
    ​


    ​

  3. Verify that the status shows Live in the main list and that the correct event is used with the respective email.
    ​

Step 4 - Suppress SL Templates

After validating that all emails are correctly configured and that the parameters are accurate, you must suppress the default SocialLadder email templates to ensure only the templates built in Klaviyo are sent.

Important: Only suppress SocialLadder templates after you have tested and confirmed that the Klaviyo templates are being delivered to ambassadors as expected.

To suppress SocialLadder templates:

  1. Access the SocialLadder Admin Portal.

  2. Navigate to Settings → Account Settings → Email Templates.

  3. Click the Edit icon next to the email that has been configured in Klaviyo.

  4. Toggle on Suppress from SocialLadder.

Example Email Workflows

  • Applicant Accepted - Sends a personalized email notifying the ambassador their application has been approved and they are invited to join your program.

  • Ambassador Direct Invite - Sends a personalized email notifying an ambassador that they are invited to join your program, this bypasses the application workflow.

  • Welcome Email - Sends a personalized welcome email each time an ambassador joins, no matter if they join from the Applicant Accepted or the Ambassador Direct Invite workflows including their name and an optional promo code.

  • Reward Redemption - Sends a notification email when an ambassador redeems a reward.

  • Rejection Email - Sends an email to someone that had their application rejected.

  • Generic Notification - Sends an email with the notification update (i.e. You have a new challenge!)
