Adding media to your activities helps give students clear context, model language, and stay engaged. You can add images, audio, video, and external links directly to an activity or as supporting resources.

Below are the main ways to use media in Speakable.

Embedding Media in an Activity

Open the activity card where you want to add media. You’ll see media icons directly below the prompt.

  1. Adding images: There are multiple ways to add images.

Search the web using Google or Unsplash (best for stock photos)

    Paste an image URL

Upload an image from your computer by clicking Upload Image:

After selecting an image, you’ll be prompted to generate AI context. We strongly recommend generating AI context, especially if the image is central to the task (for example: “Describe the image”). This helps the AI better understand the image and provide more accurate feedback.

  2. Adding Voice Recordings: Click the microphone icon to add audio.

    You can:

    • Record audio directly in Speakable, or

    • Upload an audio file from your computer

After adding the audio, you’ll be prompted to generate AI context so the AI understands how the audio should be used in the activity.

  3. Adding a video: Click the video icon to add a video.

    You can:

    • Search for a video directly on YouTube, or

    • Paste a direct video link

Once the video is selected, you’ll again be prompted to generate AI context, which helps the AI interpret how the video supports the task.

  4. Embedding an external link: You can also attach a link to an external resource, such as:

    • Articles

    • Websites

    • Online tools

These links appear directly in the activity for students to access.

Adding a Media Page

You can create a dedicated media page within an activity. This is useful when you want students to explore content before responding.

A media page can include:

  • Text

  • Images

  • Text-to-speech

  • Voice recordings

  • Videos

  • Documents

  • Podcasts

To add media:

  • Click Quick Actions in the right panel, or

  • Type “/” to open the media command menu

Adding Additional Resources

You can also add media as Resources to support your activity. Resources are great for:

  • Instructions

  • Background knowledge

  • Reference material

Resources can include:

  • Text

  • Images

  • Text-to-speech

  • Voice recordings

  • Videos

  • Podcasts

  1. Click Add resources on the right side of your screen

  2. Choose to add new resources or reuse resources you’ve added before
