Write your own Specter Agent Skill

How to get the most out of skills in Specter Agent.

Written by Rishi Clark

Skills make your interactions with Specter Agent even more efficient. Build skills around repetitive processes and information and the Agent will know exactly where to start.

Create one

  1. Go to Agent > Skills. The Skills modal opens, showing From Specter and Your workspace.

  2. Click +New skill. The three-field form opens.

  3. In Name, type what you'll type after /, in lowercase with hyphens, like company-brief.

  4. In Description, write the one line that shows under the name in the selector.

  5. In Instructions, write the brief the Agent follows. Create skill becomes active once all three fields have text.

  6. Click Create skill. It lands in Your workspace and shows up in the / selector straight away.

What we recommend putting in Instructions

The form tells you to write as if you were briefing a colleague. Cover four things.

  • Start with what to research: the question, and the exact fields or signals you want pulled.

  • Then how to lay the answer out. This is where your table columns, your section order and your word limit live.

  • Then what not to do, including how you want missing data handled.

A skill, written out

Here's a company brief with the four parts labelled.

What to do

Brief me on the company I name, short enough to read before a call. Resolve it first and tell me which one you matched. Pull growth stage, HQ, founded, headcount now and at 3, 6 and 12 months, total funding, last round with type, amount, date and lead, revenue, valuation and reported clients.

How to lay the answer out

At a glance as a two-column table. Then What they do in three sentences: the problem, the product, who buys it. Then Momentum in four lines. Then Team, one line per founder. Then Five questions: three on the business, one on the market, one for the founder, each tied to something above. Under 400 words.

Your skill is live in the / skill selector for your whole workspace.
