Setting Your Prices & How Fees Work 💰🐷

How to price your stuff, why supporters cover the fees (not you), and how to keep 100% of your listed price every single time. No hidden cuts. ✨

Written by 🐽 Support Piggy 🐽

Let's talk about the bit creators stress about way too much: pricing. 😬

And the bit that confuses everyone: how fees actually work on Spenny Piggy.

Spoiler: you keep 100% of your listed price. Supporters cover the fees at checkout. You earn what you list — no hidden cuts.

Let's break it all down. 👇

The 30-Second Version ⏱️

🐷✨ Locking that in. That's actually a big trust signal — creators see exactly what supporters pay before they list. Let me slot it in.

You set your prices. You're in control.

You keep 100% of your listed price. Always.

Supporters cover ALL the fees at checkout — fully transparent before they pay. ✅ See the maths in-app — the dashboard shows you exactly what supporters pay vs what you receive

Free trial. Then £8.99 + VAT/month flat for full access. 💎

That's it. Now let's get into the proper details. 🎯

Why supporters cover the fees 💡

This is the core thing that makes Spenny Piggy different from most creator platforms.

Most platforms take a cut of YOUR money. So you list at £50, they deduct 5-20%, and you receive £35-£47. Your earnings always look smaller than your listed price. 💀

Spenny Piggy doesn't do that. Fees are added on top of your listed price at checkout, and the supporter pays the total. You receive the full amount you listed. Every time. ✨

Three reasons this works better:

1️⃣ It's predictable. £50 listed = £50 received. No mental maths every payout day.

2️⃣ It's transparent. Supporters see exactly what they're paying for — your work, plus what it costs to deliver it safely.

3️⃣ It's fair. They're getting the value (your content). They should cover the cost of the safe, regulated platform delivering it.

We wrote a whole blog post about this: Why Spenny Piggy Charges Platform Fees.

What the fees actually are 📋

We're not hiding the numbers — but we're also not making them the focus. Here's the structure for those who want the full picture:

  • 🪙 Platform fee — covers running the platform, our team, the tech, fraud prevention, support

  • 🛡️ Enhanced compliance fee — funds our KYC, identity verification, sanctions screening, and regulatory reporting (the bit that makes us safer than most creator platforms)

  • 💳 Transaction fee — fixed admin per transaction

  • 🔌 Stripe processing fees — Stripe's own fee for moving the money (2.9% + 30p per transaction, varies slightly by region/payment method)

  • 💱 Currency conversion — 1-2% if a supporter pays in a different currency from yours

All paid by the supporter at checkout. Fully itemised. No surprises.

See the maths yourself, in-app 🧮

We don't ask you to trust us blindly on this. Every time you list an item or set a price, the dashboard shows you exactly:

What you'll receive (your listed price + VAT if you've added it)

What the supporter will pay (your price + all fees, fully itemised)

The effective fee % on that transaction

A preview of the supporter checkout view

So before you publish a £15 piece of content or a £50 wishlist item, you can see what a supporter will actually pay. Real-time, every time.

This means you can:

🎯 Price strategically — see how the effective fee % changes between £5 vs £50 vs £200 transactions

🎯 Adjust before publishing — try different price points and see the supporter total update live

🎯 Plan bundles — bundle smaller items into bigger transactions to improve the effective fee structure

🎯 Communicate confidently with supporters — you know exactly what they're paying

No "wait and see" or surprises after the fact. The maths is right there in your dashboard. ✨

Why small transactions can LOOK like a higher % 🧮

This is the honest bit that some creators ask about.

Because some fees are fixed (like the £1 transaction fee and Stripe's 30p), they make up a larger percentage of a £5 transaction than they do of a £500 transaction.

A quick example

£5 tip:

  • Fixed fees take up a bigger chunk

  • Effective fee rate looks higher

£500 wishlist gift:

  • Fixed fees barely register

  • Effective fee rate looks much lower

This is the maths of payment processing, not a quirk of Spenny Piggy. Every platform that uses Stripe (or any card processor) has the same dynamic. The percentage looks higher on smaller transactions because the fixed costs of processing a card payment don't shrink with the price.

What this means for you

✅ Encourage your supporters toward higher-value support where possible (memberships, bundles, premium tiers)

✅ Bundle smaller items so the fees feel more proportional

You still keep 100% of your listed price regardless of transaction size

The fee % is always slightly higher on tiny transactions. Always lower on big ones. Plan your pricing accordingly — and use the in-app preview to see it for yourself. 🐷

VAT — what you need to know 📋

You can add VAT to your items. Here's how it works:

✅ You decide whether to charge VAT (depends on your jurisdiction)

✅ You set the VAT rate (e.g., 20% in the UK on standard goods)

✅ The VAT is added to your item price BEFORE platform fees are calculated

✅ You receive 100% of your price + VAT in your Stripe account

VAT is your responsibility to remit to your tax authority

Quick VAT notes 🚨

⚠️ Spenny Piggy doesn't collect or remit VAT for you. Whatever VAT you charge, you handle yourself.

⚠️ You only need to register for VAT if your turnover crosses the threshold (£90,000/year in the UK, varies by country).

⚠️ Most creators don't need VAT. Set it to 0% unless you're VAT-registered.

The creator subscription 💳

Spenny Piggy has a small monthly creator subscription. Here's the deal:

What you get

Free trial — full access, card required upfront (after KYC)

£8.99 + VAT per month after trial ends

One subscription unlocks all 7 income models (no per-feature pricing)

All dashboard tools, analytics, supporter intelligence, tax reports

Priority support access

Why we charge a subscription

Most platforms hide their margin in commission cuts. We don't.

The subscription means:

We're not incentivised to maximise transaction volume at your expense

Our take is predictable — for you and us

Creators earning more aren't penalised with bigger cuts

A creator earning £200/month and one earning £20,000/month both pay the same flat £8.99 + VAT for the platform. Fair. 💎

What if I cancel my subscription?

🚪 Your profile pauses (supporters can't see it or send new payments)

💰 Your past earnings stay yours — Stripe payouts continue as normal

🔄 You can resubscribe anytime and pick up where you left off

⏸️ Useful if you need a break and don't want to pay monthly during downtime

How to set your prices 🎯

This is the part where most creators second-guess themselves. Don't. Here's the framework.

Rule 1: Know what your audience values 💖

Different audiences pay different prices. A creator with 10,000 casual TikTok followers might struggle to sell a £30 paid task. A creator with 500 deeply engaged supporters might sell out £100 ones.

The price isn't about the work — it's about what your audience will happily pay.

Rule 2: Test, don't commit ✨

Start with a reasonable middle price. Watch what sells. Adjust.

If something sells out in 2 minutes, you priced it too low. If nothing sells in a week, you priced it too high. The data tells you. (And the in-app fee preview will show you what supporters will pay at each price point.) 🧮

Rule 3: Charge for time as much as the thing 🕒

A custom 10-minute video isn't priced at "the cost of 10 minutes of filming" — it's priced at "the value to the supporter + your time + your scarcity."

If you only have 5 hours a week, those 5 hours are precious. Price accordingly. 💎

Rule 4: Premium-tier the whales 🐳

Your top 10% of supporters fund 60-80% of your income. So make sure you have a price point that lets them spend big when they want to.

Examples:

  • 🪙 Memberships: cheap tier (£5), mid (£15), premium (£50+)

  • 🎁 Wishlist: small items (£10), mid (£50), big (£200+)

  • 💼 Paid tasks: standard (£25), priority (£75), luxury (£200+)

Never have a ceiling that limits how much your top supporters can spend. 💸

The classic creator pricing mistakes ❌

A few to avoid:

Mistake 1: Underpricing because you "feel bad asking"

If your audience trusts you and wants to support you, charging proper prices isn't extracting — it's letting them participate at the level they want.

Mistake 2: One-size-fits-all pricing

Having only ONE price point means you only capture ONE type of supporter. Tier your offerings.

Mistake 3: Too many small transactions

Lots of £3-£5 tips can feel great, but the effective fee % is higher. Encourage your audience toward memberships, bundles, or higher-value support where possible.

Mistake 4: Forgetting your top 10%

Your whales WANT to spend. Don't limit them with a £25 ceiling. 🐳

Mistake 5: Comparing yourself to massive creators

Compare yourself to creators at YOUR stage, not your goal. ✨

Common questions 🤔

"What's the total fee a supporter pays?"

It depends on the transaction size — fees scale better on bigger transactions because some are fixed. The dashboard shows you the full breakdown for any price you set, before you publish. Total transparency. 💎

"Why is the % higher on small transactions?"

The fixed parts of payment processing (like Stripe's 30p per transaction and our £1 admin fee) take up a bigger chunk of a £5 tip than they do of a £500 wishlist item. This is true for any platform using card processors. Bigger transactions = lower effective fee %. 🧮

"Do supporters complain about the fees?"

Rarely — because they see exactly what they're paying for at checkout. If they DO ask, point them to our Why Spenny Piggy Charges Platform Fees blog. 📖

"Can I see what supporters will actually pay before I publish?"

Yes. When you create or edit any listing, the dashboard shows you a live preview of what supporters will pay and what you'll receive — including all fees broken down. No guessing.🧮

"Can I cover the fees for my supporter?"

Not directly. But you can offer discounts on your listed price to effectively reduce their total. 🎁

"What if I want to give a refund?"

You can refund supporters from your dashboard. All fees on a refunded transaction are returned to the supporter — they don't lose money. We'll cover refunds in detail in another article. 🔄

"Does the subscription apply if I'm not earning yet?"

The free trial gives you space to set up. After that, the £8.99 + VAT monthly applies whether you're earning yet or not. Cancel anytime if it's not for you. 💎

"What about currency conversion?"

Stripe handles conversion automatically. There's typically a 1-2% conversion fee charged to the supporter — not you. You receive your listed amount in your payout currency. ✨

"Are paid tasks priced differently from wishlist items?"

No — the same fee structure applies across every feature. You set the price, supporter pays + fees, you keep 100%. 🎯

"What's the maximum I can charge?"

No platform-imposed maximum. Charge what you're worth. The market decides. 💰

TL;DR 🎯

  1. You keep 100% of your listed price. Always.

  2. Supporters cover the fees at checkout — transparently itemised.

  3. See the breakdown in-app before publishing — listed price vs supporter total, every time.

  4. Same fees across all 7 income models — no exceptions.

  5. Small transactions show a higher effective fee % due to fixed processing costs — encourage bigger support where possible.

  6. Free trial + £8.99 + VAT/month creator subscription — flat fee, all features included.

Transparent. Flat. Fair. No hidden cuts from your earnings. 🐷✨
