The bigger the payment, the more careful we get. Here's exactly where the lines sit. π³
The three tiers π
Amount | π³ Card | π¦ Pay by Bank |
Up to Β£250 | β Yes | β Yes |
Β£250 β Β£1,000 | β οΈ If risk checks pass | β Recommended |
Over Β£1,000 | β No | β Required |
Up to Β£250 β everything works β
All payment methods, no extra steps. Card, Pay by Bank, whatever's easiest.
This covers the overwhelming majority of purchases on the platform. Most supporters will never encounter anything on this page. π·
Β£250 to Β£1,000 β bank recommended π¦
Pay by Bank is the recommended route, and you'll see it offered first.
Card is still allowed β provided the payment passes our risk checks. If it doesn't, Pay by Bank is enforced and card won't be available for that transaction.
Two reasons to just use bank in this range anyway:
π· It's cheaper for you. On a Β£500 purchase that's a meaningful saving.
β
It goes through. No risk-check hurdle, no declined card, no retry.
If you're spending in the hundreds, bank is simply the better route. π¦
Over Β£1,000 β bank only π
Card payments aren't available above Β£1,000. Pay by Bank only.
Not a soft recommendation β cards genuinely aren't offered at this level.
Why we do this π‘οΈ
Because high-value card fraud is the thing that kills creator platforms. π¨
Someone uses a stolen card for a large payment, the real cardholder disputes it weeks later, and the creator loses the money plus a dispute fee. Enough of those and the whole platform loses its ability to take payments β which is exactly how other creator platforms have gone dark overnight.
Bank payments are dramatically harder to commit fraud with. You have to be inside the actual account, authenticating with the actual bank's security. There's no stolen card number that gets you there.
So: small payments stay easy. Large payments go through the safest rail. That protects creators from chargebacks, protects supporters whose cards get stolen, and protects everyone's ability to keep trading here. π·
Creators β what this means for you π
High-value listings are absolutely fine. Paid Tasks and larger commissions work as normal β they just settle by bank.
π‘ Mention it upfront on anything over Β£250: "Larger purchases go through Pay by Bank β it's cheaper for you and faster to clear."
π‘ Check availability if you sell high-value work. Pay by Bank covers the UK, Finland, France and Germany, plus SEPA in the Eurozone and ACH in the US. Supporters outside those regions may not be able to complete a payment over Β£1,000 β worth knowing before you agree a big commission with someone abroad. π
π‘ Splitting a large purchase into smaller card payments to dodge the threshold is exactly the pattern our risk engine is built to spot. Don't suggest it β it'll trigger velocity checks and stop both payments.
Common questions π€
"My card was fine at Β£200 but not at Β£600."
That's the middle tier. Card is allowed there only if risk checks pass. Use Pay by Bank and it'll go straight through. π¦
"Why can't I use my card for a big payment?"
Above Β£1,000, bank only. High-value card fraud is the biggest chargeback risk there is, and this removes it.
"Can I split it into smaller payments?"
Please don't. Rapid repeat payments trigger our velocity checks and you'll end up blocked on both. One bank payment is faster and cheaper.
"I can't use Pay by Bank in my country."
Then Β£1,000+ isn't available to you at the moment. Talk to the creator about a smaller purchase, or message us. π¬
"Does the creator get less on a bank payment?"
No β identical. They receive their listed price either way. β
TL;DR π―
Up to Β£250 β all methods, no fuss
Β£250βΒ£1,000 β bank recommended, card only if risk checks pass
Over Β£1,000 β Pay by Bank only π
It exists because high-value card fraud is what shuts platforms down
Bank is cheaper for you anyway β see Pay by Bank Explained π¦π·
