Splash Sports automates contest rules through the platform's built-in settings, but commissioners have flexibility to customize and clarify rules within those parameters. Here's how it works.
How to Adjust Contest Rules
To modify rules or settings on an active contest:
Go to the Commissioner tab → Active
Click Manage on your contest
Navigate to Contest Settings
Edit the settings you want to change and save
Most settings can be edited before any entries are submitted. After entries are made, many settings lock to protect fairness. See How To Customize Your Contest Settings for the full timing guide.
Adding Custom or House Rules
Splash does not allow commissioners to edit the platform's built-in rules text, but you can publish custom house rules in the Description field of your contest. These appear at the top of the contest details page, above the automated rules.
How to add custom rules:
Go to Commissioner tab → Active → Manage → Contest Settings
Find the Description field below the contest name
Enter your custom rules text and save
This is especially useful for clarifying how ties are handled, since ties in Splash contests are treated as losses by default. You can describe an alternative approach in the description.
Rules When Restarting a Contest
When you restart a contest from a prior season, all settings carry over automatically. However, rules or settings that weren't available in the original contest cannot be added to a restarted one — you'd need to create a new contest to access those.
What Can't Be Changed
Point values in specialized formats (like One & Done: Touchdowns) cannot be customized
Payout structure cannot be changed once the contest has started
Built-in rules text cannot be edited — use the Description field for clarifications
