Splash: Pick Winners or Pick Losers: Contest Objective Options (New)

When creating an NCAAB contest, commissioners can now choose the contest objective: whether entrants advance by picking winning teams or losing teams. This option adds a new strategic twist to both Pick-By-Day and Pick-By-Round contests.

What Is the Pick Winners or Pick Losers Option?

The Pick Winners or Pick Losers option determines how entrants advance in the contest.

Commissioners select one of two objectives during contest creation:

  • Pick Winners (Default)

  • Pick Losers

Once selected, this objective applies to the entire contest.

Pick Winners (Default)

With Pick Winners selected:

  • Entrants advance by selecting teams that win their games

  • This is the traditional contest experience most players are familiar with

If an entrant selects a team that loses, they are eliminated.

Pick Losers

With Pick Losers selected:

  • Entrants advance by selecting teams that lose their games

  • This creates a higher-risk, strategy-driven contest format

Picking a team that wins will result in elimination.

Important Elimination Rules

Regardless of which objective is selected:

  • Wins, losses, ties, and missed picks that do not meet the selected objective will result in elimination

  • Entrants must correctly meet the contest objective on every required pick to survive

There is no partial credit or carryover between picks.

Availability by Contest Format

  • Pick-By-Day: Pick Winners and Pick Losers available

  • Pick-By-Round: Pick Winners and Pick Losers available

Both formats fully support this option.

Choosing the Right Objective for Your Contest

Choose Pick Winners if you want:

  • A traditional, easy-to-understand experience

  • Lower overall elimination rates early in the tournament

Choose Pick Losers if you want:

  • A more challenging, unpredictable contest

  • Faster eliminations and advanced strategy

The Pick Winners or Pick Losers option gives commissioners more control over how their contest plays out, letting you tailor the experience to your group’s appetite for risk and strategy.
