QuickPicks Alternate Picks (Injury Protection)

Updated today

QuickPicks now includes Alternate Picks for certain entries to help reduce refunds and keep your contest active.

What Is an Alternate Pick?

An alternate pick is a backup selection that automatically replaces one of your original picks if that player does not play (DNP). This keeps your entry active instead of being automatically refunded.

Why Are Alternate Picks Required?

In the past, if a player in a 2-pick entry didn't play, the entire entry was automatically refunded. Now, an alternate player can replace the DNP player and your entry remains active and eligible to compete.

When Are Alternate Picks Required?

Alternates are required only when both of these are true:

  • You're creating a 2-pick entry

  • One of your selected players has an injury designation (Probable, Questionable, Doubtful, or DTD)

When that happens, you'll be prompted to select an alternate before submitting.

How Alternate Picks Work

  • If your original player plays β†’ your alternate is not used

  • If your original player is DNP β†’ your alternate is automatically swapped in once the player is officially graded as DNP

Alternate Selection Rules

  • The alternate cannot be from the same team as the injured player

  • The alternate cannot have an injury designation

  • The alternate must be a valid, eligible pick

What Counts as a DNP?

A player is considered DNP if they record zero participation:

  • 0 minutes played (basketball, hockey, soccer)

  • 0 snaps played (football)

  • 0 plate appearances or innings pitched (baseball)

  • 0 holes completed (golf)

If a player starts the game but gets injured, they are not considered DNP and the alternate will not be used.

Can I Skip Adding an Alternate?

No β€” when both conditions are met (2-pick entry + a player with an injury designation), adding an alternate is required and there's no way to bypass it. If you'd rather not add one, choose a player without an injury designation instead.

Summary

  • Alternate picks = Injury Protection

  • Required for 2-pick entries with an injured player

  • Automatically replaces DNP players

  • Helps prevent refunds and keep entries active
