Restarting a PGA One & Done Contest from a Prior Year ⛳

What changes when you restart a PGA One & Done contest from a prior year — what settings carry over, what needs to be reconfigured, and why payout settings must be reviewed before launch.

Updated this week

Restarting a PGA One & Done contest from a prior year is a great way to keep your group going — but a few things change each season that are worth reviewing before you launch. This guide covers what carries over, what resets, and what you need to reconfigure.

What Carries Over from Last Year

When you restart an existing PGA One & Done contest, the following settings are pre-populated from your prior year's contest to save you time:

  • Contest name and general structure

  • Segment configuration (if applicable)

  • Scoring method (Dollar Winnings or Total Strokes)

You'll be walked through the setup flow and can review, edit, or confirm each setting before launching.

What You Need to Review and Reconfigure

Even though settings pre-populate, there are several things that must be reviewed each season as they don't automatically update:

  • Tournament schedule — The PGA schedule changes year to year. Review which tournaments are included and whether the schedule reflects the current season. The Sentry, for example, was not played in the 2026 season.

  • Payout structure — Payout settings from last year pre-populate, but you should confirm the prize amounts and split are still correct for this year's group. Payout settings lock once the contest starts and entries come in — you cannot change them mid-season.

  • Entry fee and prize pool — If your group has changed its buy-in amount, update this before the contest goes live.

  • Segment dates — If you use custom segments, check that the date ranges align with the current season's schedule.

  • Member invites — Past members are not automatically re-invited. You'll need to re-send invites via the Invite Manager. See How to Access & Export Member Lists from Past Contests if you need to retrieve last year's email list.

⚠️ Important: Payout Settings Lock After Contest Launch

This is the most common source of confusion when restarting a contest. Once your contest is live and members have entered, the payout structure cannot be changed. If your group's expectations about payouts differ from what was set in the prior year's contest, you must update the payout structure before the contest goes live — not after.

If you're unsure what your payout settings are currently set to, check the Rules section of your contest before sending invites.

When Can I Restart My Contest?

PGA contest resets typically open in early December ahead of the new season. Once the reset window opens, you can restart your contest from the Commissioner tab → Final tab → select your prior year's contest → Restart.

If you don't see the restart option yet, the window may not have opened for the current season. Check the PGA Season: What's New for Commissioners article for the current season's key dates.
