Advanced card control features for the Spriggy card

Everything you need to know about your kid’s Advanced card controls on their Spriggy prepaid card.

Updated over 2 months ago

If you’re thinking about using any of the advanced card control features for parents for your kid’s Spriggy prepaid card, check out the further information in this article to help you understand how these work so that you can decide whether they’re right for you and your kids.

These parental controls are only available to the primary parent, not additional parent users. For details about what additional parents can do, see this guide.

Advanced card controls

The advanced card control features give the primary parent the ability to toggle off/on access to the following features for each of your kid’s Spriggy cards, from within the Spriggy app:

Online transactions

You can choose whether your child can use their Spriggy card for online transactions (including online subscriptions).

This will be toggled ‘On’ as the default, so your child can use their Spriggy card to make online purchases wherever prepaid cards are accepted (subject to individual merchants’ discretion, and certain child-friendly merchant restrictions – see the Product T&Cs for more details).

If you choose to toggle this to ‘Off’, your child won’t be able to use their Spriggy card for online transactions. This means that they can’t use it to spend with retailers that offer their goods or services online, including that it will block online subscription payments.

International transactions

You can choose whether your child can use their Spriggy card for international transactions.

This will be toggled ‘On’ as the default, and currency conversion fees apply for transactions in foreign currencies – see the PDS for more details.

If you choose to toggle this to ‘Off’, your child won’t be able to use their Spriggy card for international transactions including if they are travelling. This means that they can’t use it to spend with retailers where the physical point of sale or online terminal is based in an overseas location, outside of Australia.

ATM withdrawals

If your child has access to ATM withdrawal functionality for their Spriggy card, you can choose to disable whether they can use their Spriggy card to withdraw cash from ATMs.

Currently, only those teens who are 13yo+ with access to SPRK Mode can withdraw cash from ATMs (and there’s a maximum daily withdrawal limit of $250). If your teen has access to SPRK Mode, the ATM withdrawal functionality is enabled as the default. For those children under 13yo and teens who are not yet on SPRK Mode, this function cannot be toggled off or on by the parent.

In order to access SPRK Mode, the parent will need to first complete the upgrade process including ID verification via the Spriggy app. See our FAQ here for more information about SPRK Mode.
