There are three main settings in Standard Metrics that govern how, when, and with whom your data is shared. Each of these these settings (Access Level, Auto-Submission, Benchmarks opt in/opt out) function independently of each other.
This article will explain the following settings to help you manage how your data is shared:
Access Level in the Stakeholders tab
Auto-submission status
Benchmarks Opt-out
1. Access Level in the Stakeholders tab
What is "Access Level" in the Stakeholders tab?
Within the Stakeholders tab, under Connections, you have the ability to determine each of your connections' "Access Level". This determines whether metrics are automatically shared/updated to the investor. For each connection, you have the ability to choose "Enabled Sharing" or "Disabled Sharing".
β
Access Level: Enabled Sharing
With the Access Level set to Enabled Sharing, Standard metrics entered by the company, or pulled via the accounting or payroll integration will be visible to the investor, in addition to the metrics you submit to the investor through the Investor Reports tab.
Additionally, metrics that the company has previously submitted to the investor in an Investor Report will be updated for your investor if they are later edited in an Investor Report to another investor, updated via the accounting integration, or edited by the company in the Metrics tab.
Custom Metrics are never shared through this process unless explicitly entered in an information report.
Standard metrics that will be shared when Stakeholder Access Level is set to "Shared":

Total Operating Metrics

Access Level: Disabled Sharing
With the Access Level set to Disabled Sharing, the only metrics submitted to the investor are those that the company submits through the Investor Reports tab, or that the company publishes in an Investor Update.
Metrics pulled in via the accounting integration, added/edited in the company's Metrics tab, or input via another investor's Investor Report will not be sent to the investor with a No Sharing Access Level, nor will they update the investor's data.
2. Auto-submission setting
Within an Investor Report, auto-submit allows any metrics that are input to be automatically submitted to the investor. Auto-submit is turned off by default.
When auto-submit is off, users must click Submit at the bottom right of the Investor Report, or the report will not be shared with the investor.
How do I turn on Auto-submission?
Auto-submission can be turned via the General section of the Settings tab.
2. Auto-submission can also be turned on at the bottom ribbon of an Investor Report.
3. Benchmarks Opt-out
Using Benchmarks, you will gain valuable insights into how your company compares to others in your sector and revenue scale, using the same tools and data VCs rely on for measuring performance. All data shared in Benchmarks is aggregated and anonymized.
Opting out
Companies who do not wish to include their data in benchmarking can opt out via the General section of the Settings tab. After opting out, the company will no longer have access to its Benchmarks.
The decision to opt in or out of benchmarking is entirely at the discretion of the company and pertains solely to its interaction with the Standard Metrics service. This choice has no effect on any data sharing arrangements the company may have with its investors.
