Swatch King offers multiple methods to create product groups:
This guide will focus on setting up Product Groups using the product tags. This feature, currently in beta, offers a streamlined method for group management.
1. Understanding Tagging Basics
You can use Shopify's admin to add a tag to the product you want to add to a group. The tag needs to be in a specific format, as discussed below.
To enable product grouping via tags, use the following format:
SAPG::Group Name
SAPG stands for StarApps Product Group(Just for your reference!). This helps us identify that this tag is for a product group.
Group Name is the name of the group that you want to create, or you want to add the product to.
2. Creating Groups with Tags: An Example
Assume we're creating a group for these products:
Step 1: Enable the setting "Manage product groups with product tags"
For the app to start creating groups based on the tags, you will need to enable a setting in the app.
Navigate to
App setting
in the Swatch King menuClick on the check box for
"Manage product groups with product tags"
Step 2: Add the tag in the format SAPG:: {Group name}
Choose a unique Group Name, for instance, “Sarong group 1”. This name, solely for your internal reference, won't appear to customers but will help you keep the groups organized in the app's dashboard. Add the tag SAPG::Sarong group 1
to the respective products. Now, your group is set with the selected products.
Let’s say you want to add an Option Name to the group for your customers and also want to add an Option Value to each product. To do this, use the tag in the following format: SAPG::Group ~ Option Name::Option value
Option Name and Option Value are not mandatory fields. You can add one or both of them; these names will be shown to your customers.
Option Name is a part of the Group Name, and you must add a tilde (~) to separate the Option Name from the long Group Name.
In the above example, I want to add “Print” as the Option Name, so I’ll modify the Group Name as Sarong Group 1 ~ Print
I also want to name the first product as Multi-colored, the second product as Blue and Green, and the third product as Red Polka Dots, so i’ll add these Options Values after the Group Name separated by a double colon, so the new product tags will be:
SAPG::Sarong Group 1 ~ Print::Multi-colored
SAPG::Sarong Group 1 ~ Print::Blue and Green
SAPG::Sarong Group 1 ~ Print::Red Polka Dots
Now that the tags are ready, we’ll add them to the respective products, creating the group.
3. Key Points to Remember
If you add a tag, the product will be added to the group.
If you remove the tag, the product will be removed from the group.
The tag will be automatically removed if you remove the product from the group.
You can set the default style for a newly created group in the app’s dashboard. Navigate to Product page styles > Default styles
You can add and remove tags to multiple products using bulk actions through CSV.
