My Session Links are Expired and I Can't Join My Game

Written by Mandycore the Manticore

My session links are expired and I can't join my game

If you opened your campaign page and found that the Discord invite, Roll20 link, or other session link says "expired" or "invalid," here's what to do.

Step 1: Message your GM right away

Send the GM a message through the StartPlaying platform letting them know the links aren't working. GMs are responsible for keeping session links active and accessible before a game.

Give them at least a few minutes to respond. Sometimes GMs are setting up right before the session starts!

Step 2: Check whether the session has started

  • If it's before your scheduled start time, wait a few more minutes and check again. The GM may update the link shortly.

  • If the session start time has passed and you still can't access any links and haven't heard from your GM, move to Step 3.

Step 3: What to do if you can't join and the session has started

If your session was supposed to start and you still cannot join:

  1. Take a screenshot of the expired link and any messages you sent to the GM.

  2. Contact Support through the chat widget on this page.

  3. Let us know:

    • The GM's name and the adventure name

    • The scheduled date and time of the session

    • That you have expired links and an unresponsive GM

We will review your case and make sure you are not charged for a session you were unable to attend.

What about the 24-hour leave restriction?

If your session is within 24 hours, you may see a message saying you can no longer leave the campaign. This does not mean you will be automatically charged for a session you couldn't play.

If the GM was unresponsive and you were unable to access the session, you are eligible for a refund. Reach out to our Support team with the details above and we'll take care of it.

What happens next

Once you contact Support:

  • We will review the situation with the GM.

  • If you were charged for a session you did not play, you will be refunded either as site credit or back to your original payment method.

  • We will follow up with the GM to make sure this doesn't happen again.
