What is Top GM Status?

Top GM Status is how StartPlaying recognizes Game Masters who go above and beyond to create amazing experiences for players. It is a tag that will show up on your profile and Adventures.


What are the requirements for Top GM Status?

The current requirements for Top GM Status are:

  • Retention rate β‰₯ 70%

  • 10+ verified reviews

  • 30+ booking transactions in the last 90 days

  • Average star rating β‰₯ 4.80

  • No strikes in the last 6 months

Metric Definitions

Retention rate measures if your players are continuing to play more sessions, either with you, or another GM on StartPlaying. Players who book another game on StartPlaying within 14 days of their last transaction with you will increase your Retention Rate. You can always check this figure on your Insights page.

Verified reviews come from players who have paid for a session with the GM on StartPlaying. They display a blue checkmark and show the total number of paid sessions played together.

Booking transactions happen when a player is successfully charged for a session.

Average star rating is the combined average of all star ratings players have given you in their reviews.

Strikes represent violations of the Code of Conduct or Terms of Service. The Support team will always notify you when there is a strike on your account. If you are unsure if you have any strikes, please contact Support.

How often is Top GM calculated?

Top GM Status is calculated monthly, at the beginning of the month.


Where can I check my Top GM Status?

At this time, there is not a dashboard or specific page for checking your Top GM Status. You would need to check each stat individually:


Can I lose top GM Status?

If you miss the requirements in a given month, you'll receive a heads-up email that you have 1 month to get back on track - this is your grace period.

If you miss them the following month as well, your status will be removed.

We will always give a grace period before the status is removed, to account for things like vacations, illness, etc.


How do I get Top GM Status back once I've lost it?

If you meet the criteria for Top GM when stats are recalculated, you will receive Top GM Status again.


Where does Top GM Status appear?

Players will see a Top GM Status on a Game Master's profile and Adventure cards.
