Because your profile is one of the first things prospective players look at when booking a game, it’s incredibly important to make it the best possible!

Fill Out Everything On Your Profile

This means the Personal Details section, the GM Stats section, and the Gaming Details section. If you’ve got any social links, put them in too!

You’ll also notice a “Book a GM Button” section - if you fill out this section, a button will appear on your profile, allowing players to book you directly for custom games.

Choose a Great Profile Picture

One of the most important parts of your profile is your profile picture. The first tip is to set an actual photo of yourself as your profile picture. We’ve found that real photos do better than illustrations and logos in getting players to book your games.

More importantly, your profile picture should be as high quality as possible: so make sure that it’s not grainy or out of focus. Bright and inviting images also tend to do better than dark ones. Think of this like a dating profile where you want to make your profile picture give off the best impression of you.

Customize Your GM Link

You will notice the profile links at the top of the page. Feel free to customize your GM link!

Remember, however, that if you change your link, your old link will no longer work, and you’ll have to resend a new link to everyone who had your old one.

So if you're going to do it, I'd suggest doing it in the very beginning of your setup.

Get Reviews From Your Past Players

You’ll also notice the review link at the top of the page. This custom review link lets you get 20 unverified reviews outside of the website, which will help build your credibility and review count on StartPlaying.

You need at least 5 reviews to show up in the Game Master Search. You can find more information on verified vs unverified reviews here.

What does my profile look like to a player?

Your GM Profile shows potential players the information you filled out about yourself as a GM, as well as:

  • Your reviews

  • Your number of years on StartPlaying

  • Your number of games hosted

    • Note: Games hosted only counts your paid games hosted on StartPlaying. Free games do not increase your number of games hosted

  • 3 tags that your players have rated you highly for
