Update a section or reinstall a product template

Understand which changes affect section code, page settings, and other pages before replacing an existing installation.

Choose the operation that matches your goal. Editing page content, updating a section, and replacing a whole template affect different parts of your work.

Change text, images, or colors

Open the installed page in Shopify’s theme editor, select the section or block, edit its settings, and save. Normal content changes do not require reinstalling the page.

Update one installed section

  1. Open the section in Sternify → Sections.

  2. Choose the exact destination under Select Theme.

  3. Use Install Section to replace that section’s installed copy when an update is needed.

This replaces the section file rather than the whole product template. Existing themes keep their own copies, so a Sternify release does not by itself confirm that a theme received an update.

Check custom code first. Replacing a section can overwrite a developer’s changes to that section and affect all its instances in the theme. If support is resolving a bug, follow their instructions for that specific section.

Replace a prebuilt product template

Reinstall this template? means the same template already exists in the selected theme. Replace template replaces its layout and settings; previous editor changes are not merged into the new copy.

If you want to compare versions while keeping your edited page, preserve a separate template or use a separate theme first.

Install an AI page over an existing copy

Read Confirm theme changes. An existing template can be replaced, and shared section updates can affect other pages. AI product assignment remains manual.

Check after an update

Inspect the affected page on desktop and mobile, plus another page using the same section. If the result is unexpected, send support the theme, section, page URL, and what changed.
