This article explains how discounts and coupons work in Stora, what’s changed, and how to control which products are discounted.
Whats changed
Line‑item discounts
You can apply discounts to specific line items (for example, unit types, Insurance, or recurring Products) rather than the entire subscription.
Coupons default to units only
By default, coupons only apply to storage units. To include Insurance/Protection, update the coupon’s Applies to settings.
Clearer visibility
You can see discounts on each subscription in the Backoffice.

You choose what’s discounted. Insurance is discounted only if you configure the coupon or promotion to apply to it.
Consistent behaviour
Promotions and coupons apply only to the product types you configure.
Backwards compatibility
Your existing global coupons continue to work. We will migrate coupons that previously applied to units only.
How discounts apply in common scenarios
Adding a new unit type to a subscription with a global discount.
The new unit will inherit the active discount if the discount applies to unit types.
Increasing quantity of a unit type with a line‑item discount.
The additional quantity will be discounted if the discount is applied to that line item.
Adding a different unit type when the discount is applied only to a specific line item.
The new unit type won’t be discounted unless the discount is set to apply to unit types globally or you add the discount to that line item.
⚠️ Discounts apply at the time of order. If you add items later, whether they inherit a discount depends on your “Applies to” settings and whether the discount is global or tied to a specific line item. If a discount is attached to a specific line item, new unit types or products won’t be discounted. If you need them to be, you’ll have to recreate the subscription.
What’s not supported yet
Editing discounts on active subscriptions in Stora
For now, changes to discounts on live subscriptions must be made in Stripe.
Targeting specific custom products only
You cannot yet target discounts to specific custom products (for example, only “24/7 Access”).
