Using Advanced Search and Filters

What can I search for across my deals? How do I keyword search within multiple deals or documents?

Updated over 6 months ago

Street Diligence's upgraded interface features an advanced search and filtering engine, enhancing the precision and efficiency of locating deals and documents that meet exact criteria. Here’s a guide to leveraging these powerful tools for optimal navigation of deals, agreements, and related data.

Global Search

Global Search is located at the top of the screen and indexes the entire Street Diligence platform, allowing users to search across deals, documents, and general data. It has two primary components:

  • Fast Search: Quickly search documents and data with a simple keyword entry and hit enter to pull up results. If the search does not appear in the results list dropdown, it will direct you to the modal window pane within search.

  • Modal Window: After searching by keywords or lists, a window displays your results.

Use the Show all results option to view a comprehensive list filtered by your search criteria.

Note: Global Search does not support operator-based expressions like AND/OR (See Advanced Search below for this functionality). Exact phrases should be placed in quotes to ensure specific matches.

Advanced Search

Access advanced search by navigating to the search bar in the Street Diligence interface. This will open advanced filtering options, enabling efficient deal and document discovery.

Advanced search allows for more refined and efficient queries. Key features include:

  • Exact Phrase Search: Enclose phrases in quotes (e.g., "Example Text") to return documents containing the exact wording. This is ideal for locating specific clauses or terms verbatim.

  • Logical Operators: Combine keywords with AND, OR, or NOT to filter results by multiple criteria.

    • Example:

      • "Example Text" AND "Sample" – Returns documents containing both terms.

      • "Example Text" OR "Sample" – Returns documents containing either term.

      • "Example Text" NOT "Sample" – Excludes documents containing "Sample."

  • Wildcard Searches: Use an asterisk (*) to replace one or more characters in search terms (e.g., deal to return "deals," "dealer," etc.).

  • Proximity Searches: Find terms within a specified distance of each other by using the tilde (~) followed by a number. For example, "interest coverage"~5 locates instances where "interest" and "coverage" appear within five words of each other.

  • Field-Specific Searches: Target specific document sections by specifying fields in the search (e.g., title:"Loan Agreement" to search only in document titles).

  • Synonym Recognition: Identify and search for synonyms, expanding the search scope while maintaining relevance.

Note: Quotation marks are critical for exact matches. Without them, the system will return broader, less relevant results.

Text String and Case Sensitivity

Search terms are not case-sensitive (e.g., "EXAMPLE TEXT" will yield the same results as "example text"). Entering full text strings helps locate entire clauses or provisions word-for-word.

Filtering for Specific Deals

To refine deal searches, advanced filters provide an array of options. Users can narrow results based on document terms, keywords, deal scores, and other criteria.

Filter Categories Include:

  • Deal Score: Filter deals by their Street Diligence deal score.

  • Ratios and Baskets: Use financial metrics to target deals that meet custom criteria.

  • Reference Data: Filter by sponsor, lender, law firm, structure type, status, issuance date, etc.

  • Use of Proceeds: Focus on deals with specific financial or operational objectives.

Filters can be combined with advanced search to refine results further.

Saving and Applying Filters

Once filters are applied, users can save them for future use. Simply apply the desired filters, name them, and hit enter to save. Saved filters can be re-applied without re-entering criteria.

Advanced Search Capabilities

Advanced search offers several deep-dive capabilities:

  • Keyword Search: Search specific keywords within documents.

  • Document Search: Locate documents tied to specific deals.

  • Concept Search: Identify broad concepts like "covenant protection" or "interest coverage."

  • Score and Prevalence Filtering: Filter based on deal scores and the frequency of specific terms in agreements.

  • Specific Language Queries: Conduct nuanced searches by entering exact language queries with operators and keywords.

  • Boosting Terms: Prioritize certain keywords by adding a caret (^) and a boost factor. For example, "covenant^3" increases the importance of the word "covenant" threefold in search results.

By mastering advanced search tools, users can unlock greater efficiencies and precision in identifying the right deals and documents within Street Diligence.
