FAQs

💡 Common questions and things to know when using the Report Manager:

How does StreetMetrics measure impressions?

How it Works:

Track Ad Via GPS

StreetMetrics technology tracks the path of a moving ad via GPS, then compares the route of the ad to time-stamped location pings from mobile devices. For digital ads, each ad play is tracked in the same manner.

Measure Mobile Advertising IDs (MAIDs)

StreetMetrics measure the number of mobile devices that fall within the ad’s Visibility Cone along its journey (or during the ad play for digital ads). The Visibility Cone is the area around an ad wherein a person has the best possible opportunity to view the ad. The criteria that help determine the size and shape of the Visibility Cone are:

* Ad Type (e.g. digital, vinyl, illuminated)

* Ad Size

* Ad Placement (e.g. Bus Rear, Bus Side, Taxi-Top, Vehicle Wrap)

Determine Total Impressions

Using known device counts as the foundation for StreetMetrics' analysis, and accounting for external factors like weather and time of day, we apply our advanced impression modeling algorithm to accurately estimate total impressions garnered by a given ad.

Report

The StreetMetrics client-facing platform reports impressions. View the path of an ad on a map, and see when, where, and how many impressions were delivered with our easy-to-use reporting tool. Impressions are viewable by campaign, by ad, in total and by day. The report is updated every 24 hours.

Why is a vehicle not moving?

A vehicle might not move for a few reasons. It could be getting maintenance work done, or it may simply be in the garage and not running for the day.

A vehicle has 0 miles, what does that mean?

Review the components. Has that vehicle been confirmed from the API feed? If so, perhaps it didn’t drive at all. If it was supposed to move, contact the Transit Authority. If not, why isn't it confirmed in the feed? Is the asset_id correct? Is the GPS broken?

If there is still confusion, contact your Customer Success Manager.

If a vehicle has '0' impressions, what does it mean?

Review the components. Is that vehicle associated to a campaign/ad group? Is it reporting GPS correctly? Did the vehicle drive at all? Does it have an asset class associated to it (this effects the media spec)?

Why are there fluctuations in impression data?

StreetMetrics measures the intersection between vehicles and people. Vehicles may or may not drive the same route each day, but odds are they’re not at the same location at the same time each day.

Additionally, the movement of people varies. There could be a rally, a wreck that’s backing up traffic, or the end of a game or event so more people are out and about, etc… Any number of these circumstances can cause a spike in impressions because vehicles and people are not in the same location and time each day.
