Create asset group(s)

šŸ’” Below is an overview and steps on creating assets groups.

For a tutorial on creating Asset Groups, click here.

The Asset Groups tab is a newer feature allowing you the opportunity to group vehicles by different groups outside of the campaigns (i.e. you are curious to see how garages are doing, regardless of the campaign).

Below are steps on how to create an Asset Group:

Step 1: Go in and create the group on the front-end of the platform. Select "+Add Group" and select the "Asset Owner" and "Group Type" in the drop down menu. Name the group if it prompts you to do so. Click "Save."

Step 2: If you want to create a subgroup within the original group created, select the group you made in step 1 and then click "Add New Subgroup." You can create up to five subgroups.

Step 3: Once you've created the subgroup, add the vehicles to that subgroup that you want to view or compare.

Bulk upload assets and asset group(s)

šŸ’” Below are steps on how to bulk upload your assets:

Step 1: Click on the "Bulk Upload" tab on the Asset Manager page.

Step 2: Download the StreetMetrics Asset Group Onboarding Spreadsheet and fill out all the necessary information.

Status

'Asset Status' in the Assets Manager refers to the status of that vehicle. There are various factors that could contribute to its activity or lack of. The statuses include, but are not limited to:

  • In-service

  • Out of Service

  • Incoming

  • In Shop

  • In Accident

  • Out of Fleet

  • Disposed

Paired to Feed

The section labeled 'Paired to Feed' in the Assets Manager indicates whether the vehicle has been successfully paired in StreetMetrics' system or if there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

If the vehicle is labeled "Confirmed," it is actively being processed and tracked by our system.

If the vehicle is labeled "Needs Attention," the vehicle is coming through the API feed, but is missing necessary information. Double check to ensure this vehicle was assigned all mandatory fields (i.e. asset class, asset type).

If the vehicle is labeled "Not found," the vehicle isn't coming through the API feed at all.

Asset ID

The asset ID, or vehicle ID, is a unique reference identifier associated to each vehicle that appears in your integrated GPS or GTFS API data feed. The field can contain numbers, letters and special characters. This is from the onboarding spreadsheet at the onset of our engagement.

Display Name

Display name is the unique name associated to an asset ID. This is from the onboarding spreadsheet at the onset of our engagement.

Type

Type is the vehicle type (Bike, Bus, Mobile Billboard, Pedi Cab, Scooter, Taxi, Light Rail, Box Van, Semi Trailer, Trolley, Double Decker, Tour Bus, Delivery Truck). This is from the onboarding spreadsheet at the onset of our engagement.

Class

A grouping of asset IDs (vehicles) based on common asset characteristics, typically including some combination of the manufacturer, model, vehicle length and year. This is from the onboarding spreadsheet at the onset of our engagement.

Owner

The name of the asset owner (i.e. transit authority). This is from the onboarding spreadsheet at the onset of our engagement.

Provider

The name of the GPS provider for this asset.

Last Reported

This is telling StreetMetrics the last reported movement of the vehicle.

FAQs

šŸ’” Common questions and things to know when using Asset Manager

What does the total assets number consist of?

The total assets listed count the number of assets that are appearing directly in the API feed, regardless of an assets status.

What does "Processing" mean?

The section within the Assets Manager labeled "Processing" refers to whether or not StreetMetrics is processing the data of that particular vehicle.

If the button reads "Active" then StreetMetrics is processing the data. If the button reads "Inactive," StreetMetrics is unable to process the data for that vehicle.

If the button reads "Retired" then the vehicle is no longer in use.

What does a vehicles status mean for measurement eligibility?

Active assets are the total number of assets available for measurement. If an asset is listed as Inactive, it will not be measured; however, inactive assets can be changed to Active at any point. If an asset is listed as Retired, it will not be measured; retired assets are those that will never be measured again.

What is percent reporting?

Percent reporting represents the percentage of understood paths from active vehicles.

A path identifies the route a vehicle took to get from point A to point B - information given to StreetMetrics by a GPS provider. If there is a significant increase of distance and/or time between point A and point B (based on data sent through the API from the GPS provider), the path is eliminated from the system.

StreetMetrics only uses paths that are confidently identified, and as a result, the impressions we report are only based on the number of paths seen by our system.

What is GTFS?

The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) is data specification that allows public transit agencies to publish their transit data in a format that can be consumed by a wide variety of software applications. Today, the GTFS data format is used by thousands of public transport providers.

GTFS is split into a static component that includes schedule, fare, and geographic transit information, as well as a real-time component that contains arrival predictions, vehicle positions and service advisories.

If using a GTFS feed, StreetMetrics will need the real-time feed in order to track the assets.
