If the browser's built-in audio or screen recording feature gives you trouble — the recording gets interrupted, won't upload, or won't play back after it finishes — Subanana supports several other ways to capture content and create a project besides built-in recording. Below are the alternatives you can use, along with suggestions for reducing recording problems.
First, try to keep what you've already recorded
Built-in browser recording depends on your browser and device environment and may occasionally fail to complete. If an error occurs during recording, the recording screen usually offers to "restore the saved recording" — we recommend choosing restore first so you keep the part that was recorded successfully, instead of uploading a truncated or incomplete file.
In addition, both the audio recording and screen recording screens show a "Download" button once recording finishes. We recommend clicking "Download" to save the recording file to your device as a backup before uploading; even if the online upload runs into problems, you can still use the "upload a file directly" method described below.
Alternative upload methods
Besides built-in browser recording, you can use any of the following methods to capture content:
Upload an audio/video file directly: MP4, MOV, MP3, and M4A formats are supported. If you have already recorded a file with another tool, or downloaded your built-in recording to your device, simply click or drag the file into the upload area to create a project.
Paste a video link: if the content is already on YouTube (Instagram and Facebook links are also supported), you can paste the link and the system will import and process it. Importing from external links is an experimental feature, and some videos cannot be imported because of the platform's membership, copyright, or publishing restrictions; if that happens, download the video as a file first and use the "upload a file directly" method above.
Handle Zoom meetings: while a Zoom meeting is in progress, you can use Subanana's screen recording feature to capture the screen and audio; or, after the meeting ends, download Zoom's own recording file (MP4/MP3) and upload it to Subanana.
On all plans — free and paid — the limit per file is 8 hours and 30GB.
Suggestions for reducing screen recording problems
With browser screen recording, recording quality and compatibility vary by browser and operating system. The following points help reduce problems:
We recommend using the Chrome or Edge browser on Windows for the best recording quality and system audio support.
Safari does not support recording system audio and only captures microphone audio; on macOS and Linux, browsers can generally only record audio from the selected tab, not the audio of the whole system.
If recording is unstable, try disabling "hardware acceleration" in your browser settings and then recording again.
Once recording finishes, click "Download" first to save the file to your device as a backup, then upload it.
About downloading the "original recording file"
Once the content has been uploaded and a project created, there is currently no separate option to download the "original recording file". If you want to keep the original recording, click "Download" on the recording screen to save it yourself after recording finishes and before you upload.
