Can I download the original recording (screen or meeting recording) to my computer?

Written by Chloe

After creating a project with Subanana's built-in recording features (screen/audio recording) or meeting recording, a common question is: can you download that original recording back to your own computer? Here is what the product currently supports.

What you can download today

After transcription completes, you can export the following formats from the editor:

  • Subtitle files (.srt, .vtt)

  • Word documents (.docx)

  • Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx)

  • Plain text (.txt)

  • Videos with embedded subtitles: paid plans can export up to 4K, and the Free plan up to 720p. Please note that videos exported on the Free plan carry the default watermark, which cannot be removed; after upgrading to a paid plan you can turn the default watermark off.

In other words, you can download the transcription results and the video with subtitles embedded.

What you cannot download separately today

Subanana does not yet offer a way to download the original recording — the raw, unprocessed screen or meeting recording without subtitles — separately to your computer. This is the case in every mode: subtitles, transcript, and AI meeting summary.

If what you want is a video with subtitles, use the "videos with embedded subtitles" export described above instead — that can be downloaded to your computer.

To keep the original recording, download it at recording time

If you need to keep the original recording, we recommend that when using the built-in recording features, you download the recording to your computer after recording finishes and before uploading, and then upload it to Subanana for processing. Once the file has been uploaded and a project created, the unprocessed original recording can no longer be retrieved on its own.

If you already have the original recording

If you recorded with another tool (for example Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet) and already have the original file, you can upload that file directly to Subanana for processing — there is no need to re-record through Subanana.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us at hello@subanana.com or via the in-app support chat.
