Do you support vertical videos?

Written by Chloe

Absolutely! We know how much vertical short-form video matters for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok, so Subanana's AI subtitle tool has been optimized and tested for vertical videos.

Here are the details of our vertical video support:

Uploads and formats

We fully support uploading audio and video files in vertical aspect ratios such as 9:16. You can upload a video file directly or paste a YouTube Shorts link — either way, the system will recognize it and run AI speech-to-text.

Exporting SRT subtitle files (CC)

Once your subtitles are generated, you can export a universal .srt subtitle file. This format works perfectly with platforms like YouTube and Facebook, so you can easily attach closed captions (CC) when uploading your Shorts.

Exporting vertical videos with hardcoded subtitles

Inside the tool, you can adjust the video aspect ratio, the subtitle style and size, and even the video background, then download a video file (MP4) with the subtitles already "burned in":

1. Set the video aspect ratio in the subtitle tool

2. Adjust the subtitle size, style, and position; you can also set the background color of your vertical video or even use a custom background

3. Click [Export] in the top right, then click [Export video]

4. Choose the output video quality to start generating your subtitled vertical video

💡 Creator tip: about subtitle length
Because vertical videos have a narrow frame, a subtitle line with too many characters can end up with text that is too small or runs past the edge.

In Subanana's online subtitle editor, we recommend the following:

  • Split long lines: break long sentences into two lines or several shorter ones.

  • Adjust the timeline: use our flexible timeline to keep the shorter lines in sync with the speech.

This keeps your subtitles comfortable to read and looking great on a phone screen.
