Create Subscription Plan

This section explains how to set up and manage the Subscription Plan in your Shopify store.

Updated this week

What is the Subscription Plan?

A Subscription Plan is a way for you to sell products on a recurring basis. Instead of customers buying once and remembering to reorder, they subscribe to receive their favorite products automatically on a schedule you define.

With subscription plans, your products gain new purchase options right on the product page: customers can choose a one-time purchase or commit to a subscription with flexible delivery frequencies and discounts.

Why is this plan needed?

Subscription plans are important because they directly support both customer experience and your store’s growth:

  • Predictable Revenue: Recurring orders make cash flow more stable and easier to forecast.

  • Customer Loyalty: Subscribers engage with your brand regularly, lowering churn.

  • Increased Lifetime Value (LTV): Subscribed customers spend more over time.

  • Operational Efficiency: Automating repeat purchases reduces manual reordering and support requests.

  • Flexibility for Shoppers: Customers can select frequency, apply discounts, and even swap products without canceling.

If your store sells consumable or repeat-use products (beauty, supplements, pet care, household goods, etc.), subscriptions are a proven way to increase long-term success.

How to set up this plan for your store?

  1. Access Subscription Plans from the Subscribfy dashboard

    • Log in to your Subscribfy dashboard and navigate to Subscription Plans.

    • Here you can view all your existing plans or start a new one.

    • Click “Create Subscription Plan” to begin, then select Regular Subscription (standard recurring delivery).

    • You can always edit or add more plan types later.

  2. Product

    • Choose the product(s) you want to include.

      1. Decide on purchase options:

        • One-time and Subscription → customers can choose between buying once or subscribing.

        • Subscription Only → the product is exclusively sold as a subscription.

  3. Shipping price for All Recurring Orders

    • By default, recurring orders inherit your store’s standard shipping rules.

      1. You can override this by setting a fixed shipping fee for all subscription renewals.

      2. Example: Charge $5 for every recurring delivery regardless of product size.

  4. Product Replacement Subscription After Initial Purchase

    • Enable this if you want customers to receive one product on their first order and a different product on all future recurring orders.

    • Example: First-time customers get a trial-size version, and all renewals ship the full-size product.

  5. Set order schedule

    • Configure when and how often subscriptions are renewed:

      • Add Frequencies → e.g., every week, every 2 weeks, monthly.

      • Selling Plan Names → label each option clearly (e.g., “Subscribe & Save – Monthly”).

      • Billing & Delivery → define how often customers are charged vs. how often they receive products.

      • Discounts → apply fixed or percentage discounts for subscribers (common incentive: 10% off).

    • You can create multiple frequency options so customers have flexibility to choose what works best.

  6. Once configured, click Save to apply your changes. Once saved, your product pages will automatically update with subscription options.

What happens next?

After activation:

  • Customers will see a subscription selector on your product pages.

  • They choose their preferred delivery schedule before checkout.

  • Orders generate automatically according to the schedule you’ve set.

  • You’ll be able to manage all subscription activity in your Subscribfy dashboard (pause, skip, cancel, or swap products).

Subscriptions don’t just add a feature - they create a new business model for your store. With recurring revenue, stronger loyalty, and less friction, your brand is better positioned for long-term success.

A: By default, subscriptions follow your store’s shipping rules. You can also set a flat shipping fee that applies to all recurring deliveries.

Q: What happens if I enable product replacement?
A: The customer’s first order will include the original product, and all future renewals will ship the replacement product you set.

Q: Can I edit a subscription plan after launch?
A: Yes. You can always go back to Subscription Plans in your dashboard and update products, schedules, pricing, or discounts.
