This section explains how to set up and manage the email subscription for your Shopify store.

Updated today

Overview

This documentation outlines the process of creating a triggered email flow in Yotpo Email Marketing & SMS using a custom Subscribfy event. This flow will automatically send an email when a customer subscribes to a product via your Subscribfy subscription plans.

The flow uses:

  • Subscribfy’s custom event: Subscribfy Email ProdSub Newsubscription

  • A unique Selling Plan Group ID to identify the subscription product

  • Custom conditions to ensure emails are sent only for specific product subscriptions

Steps to Create the Triggered Email Flow

  1. Go to Subscription Plans in the Subscribfy app in your store

    • Log into your Subscribfy dashboard.

    • In the left navigation menu, click on Subscription Plans.

    • This section contains all your subscription products.

  2. Select the Subscription Product

    • From the list of available subscriptions, select the product you want to create an email flow for.

    • You will be taken to a detailed view of that subscription.

  3. Copy the Selling Plan Group ID

    • On the right panel (the Summary section), look for Selling Plan Group ID (e.g., 2525748161).

    • Copy this ID. It is a unique identifier for the subscription group tied to this product.

    • You'll use this ID later to connect the correct product in your Yotpo flow.

  4. Open the Yotpo app

    • In your Shopify admin, go to Apps.

    • Search for Yotpo Email Marketing & SMS.

    • Click on it. This action will redirect you to the Yotpo application dashboard.

  5. Navigate to My Flow

    • In the Yotpo app dashboard, go to the left-side menu.

    • Click on Flows & Automations.

    • Then click on My Flows. This section shows all of your email flows.

    • On the left, click the Create Flow button.

  6. Select the Flow Trigger

    • A list of available triggers will appear.

    • Scroll to the Custom Triggers section.

    • Select: Subscribfy Email ProdSub Newsubscription
(This custom event is triggered when someone starts a new product subscription through Subscribfy.)

  7. Personalize the Trigger Conditions

Now you will narrow down the trigger so it only applies to the specific product subscription you want.

    a. Add the First Condition:

    • In the “Choose Next” section of the flow, click Add Condition.

    • A condition panel will open.

    • For the first condition:

      • Select: Custom Subscribfy Plan Group Type

      • Operation: is equal to

      • Value: Product Subscription

    b. Add the Second Condition:

    • Click +AND to insert a second condition.

    • For this condition:

      • Select: Custom Subscribfy Plan Gid

      • Operation: is equal to

      • Value: (Paste the Selling Plan Group ID you copied in Step 3)

These two conditions together ensure the flow only triggers for a Product Subscription of the exact product you selected earlier.

  8. Customize the Email Flow

    • After setting up the trigger and conditions, the flow must contain at least one action.

    • Click the +Add step button from the flow and select "Choose Action":

      • From the Action list that appears after selecting the previous option, select Email Message and start to personalize the email flow.

      • After you are done with personalizing everything you need, click the Save button.

    • The email(s) you create will be automatically sent when someone subscribes to this product.

Conclusion

Setting up a triggered email flow for product subscriptions using Subscribfy and Yotpo Email Marketing & SMS ensures that your customers receive immediate, relevant communication when they start a subscription. By using custom events and specific conditions, you can tailor the messaging to each subscription product, improving engagement and retention.

This setup is essential for stores using product-based subscription models, as it enables automated, personalized communication without manual follow-up. Once configured, the flow runs on its own, helping streamline your operations while enhancing the customer experience.

For any new product subscriptions, simply repeat this process using the new Selling Plan Group ID.
