Quick Setup
Step 1: Create Your Attentive API Key
Log in to your Attentive account.
Click Marketplace in the Setup menu on the left
Click the Create app button (top right)
Enter an App name (e.g., "Subscribfy Integration")
Enter your Contact email
Set these permissions:
Custom attributes: write
Custom events: write
Subscribers: read
Click Create
Copy the API key and save it somewhere safe
Step 2: Connect in Subscribfy
Go to Subscribfy → Integrations in your Shopify admin.
Find Attentive Integration
Click Enable
Paste your API key
Click Save
Step 3: Create a Journey in Attentive
Now set up automated messages triggered by Subscribfy events.
In Attentive, click Journeys in the Messaging menu
Click Create journey
Click Start from scratch
Select Transactional in the All trigger types menu
Choose a Subscribfy event (e.g., Subscribfy New Membership)
Build your journey with SMS or email actions
Activate the journey
Available Events
Subscribfy sends these events to Attentive automatically:
Subscribfy Membership Created | When a new membership is purchased |
Subscribfy Membership Cancelled | When a member cancels |
Subscribfy Membership Paused | When a member pauses their membership |
Subscribfy Membership Reactivated | When a paused membership resumes |
Subscribfy Successful Charge | When a recurring payment succeeds |
Subscribfy Failed Charge | When a payment fails |

The goal: Send a welcome SMS when someone subscribes

Troubleshooting
Events not appearing in Attentive?
Verify the API key has all three permissions: Custom attributes (write), Custom events (write), and Subscribers (read).
Can't find Subscribfy events in journey triggers?
Look under Transactional in the trigger types menu. Events start with "Subscribfy".
Journey not triggering?
Make sure the journey is Active (not Draft). Test with a real membership action.
