Watching a video is not learning. Here is the five-step method we teach for every lesson. It takes about one and a half times the video length and it is the difference between "I watched it" and "I can answer an exam question on it".
The five steps
1. Clear distractions. Phone in another room, music off, video full screen.
2. Download the Template Note. Every topic page has a Template Note PDF. Print it or open it on a tablet, landscape. Use four pens: blue for titles, black for notes, red for key terms, green for examples and diagrams. You can also download the full Year 12 or Year 13 Template Notes pack from your Welcome Pack, which is linked from your Personal Study Plan and the Topics by Year page.
3. Watch a chunk, pause, then write. Video, then your head, then the page. Never write while it is playing. If you cannot write it from memory, you have not learned it yet: rewind.
4. Do the quiz and mark it like an examiner. Every lesson has a quiz. Answer it on paper, then mark it against the mark scheme. Only tick a mark point if you actually wrote it, not if you "would have said that".
5. Set your Progress Tracker light. At the bottom of the lesson, answer "How do you feel about this lesson?" with green (confident), amber (okay) or red (needs work), based on how the quiz went. See How To Use Your Progress Tracker.
Stuck on something in the lesson?
Scroll to the bottom of the page and ask the AI Tutor. It knows the exam board specification and the past papers, and it answers immediately. If it does not fully answer, click "Still Stuck? Ask A Human Tutor" and a tutor will reply within 24 hours. Full steps here: How To Ask Your Tutor A Question.
Where to start
Your Personal Study Plan tells you which lesson to do first. If you have not built one yet, do that before anything else.
